I really like the look of Openstreetmaps, but have just had to switch back to googlemaps due to a few glitches with its integration in GD. The issue of map pin bounce and pinpoint on search results is, I believe, to be addressed in the next release.

More frustratingly, I found problems with setting map location when adding listings: using UK addresses, the location cannot sometimes be determined on the map after address and postcode is put in (when it is fine in googlemaps). A warning message came up and then the address had to be re-typed and the map marker placed manually. Because the issue is important and would probably prevent some people from entering listings I made the switch back to googlemap, meaning that you can’t test it on my website – I will let you have the example address (below) so you can test on your own openstreetmap installation:

I will maybe have another look at OSM in the future, but at the moment i need the reassurance of smooth operation

    Thanks

    Hi,

I alerted the developers, if the problem can be fixed on our side it will.

    Thanks

    Hi,
Actually the address “1 Haymans Cottages” does not exists in OSM database. If addresses are missing in the OSM database then they will not show up.

Check nominatim search : http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/search.php?q=1 Haymans Cottages
    & standard search : http://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=1 Haymans Cottages

These both search returns no records found, it means the address not exists in OSM database.

But Google has address in their DB so it returns results.
    Check https://google-developers.appspot.com/maps/documentation/utils/geocoder/#q=1 Haymans Cottages

    Thanks

Ah, I had a suspicion it might be something like this. It’s a shame, as despite OSM’s nice appearance I don’t think I can use it while it doesn’t have the coverage of google. Thanks for your work in tracking the issue down though.
