Past Events still showing

Is there a way to have events automatically “expire” on their end date? I am having to manually change events to “draft” status after the event has passed its date.

I have checked the box to ” Hide event past dates in the detail page sidebar of recurring events” in the Event Settings. I have chosen Upcoming for filters as well, but past events are still showing in Upcoming lists widget on the home page even weeks after the event has passed.

The only way I can control events is to go in and manually set to “draft” or set the expiration date and alive days date on the admin page. Unfortunately, I can’t do this every time a listing is posted. I would like to see this happen automatically.
