According to your documentation GeoDirectory will only work if “Post Domain” is selected. This is an issue because Google News requires a unique identifier number in the URL so we must use a custom structure. Is there are way to make this work using a Custom Structure? We cannot alter our domain / URL structure.

    Thanks

I do not believe that site map generator (which I have installed, but am using Yoast) solves the issue as GN still requires a unique URL that incorporates a numeric identifier. It cannot just be the standard “Post Domain” as that is only the article title (at least initially because sometimes titles change but the URL must remain consistent).

I do not fully understand the Post Domain requirement. Is this something that is just hard coded into the plugin?

    Thanks

GN Does not require the numeric identifier if you use a News sitemap it says at https://support.google.com/news/answer/68323?hl=en

The plugin is not just a site map generator, it is a news sitemap generator.

You can always add a number to your slugs of your post or pages if you like?

Ok. You are correct about using that News Site Generator but I have over 10,000 unique article URLS already created using a unique identifier number. I have hundreds of thousands of links to these articles. I change URL structure site breaks. It is not a good option to change the URL structure.

    hi,

using permalinks is a common practice with WordPress and it is actually the best possible option for SEO. I would say 99% of wordpress website do not use default permalinks.

GeoDirectory uses a custom permalinks structure with locations, that would be impossible to handle with the default WordPress permalinks structure.

In addition, changing from the default to the postname permalinks structure shouldn’t break anything of your 10k articles. It will just change their URL to a nicer looking one.

Given that it is not a requirement for Google News to have a unique identifier in the URL, while it is for GeoDirectory to have non default permalinks, I’m not sure what we are discussing about here.

    Thanks
