Hello,
New to GeoDirectory but not WordPress.
I want to create a site that is both editable by myself as well as some coordinators but not the general members. We have “chapters” of our organization around the world and I want the coordinators of each chapter to be able to create listings after they claim their own but I don’t want general members to be able to. Where do I set that rule?
I bought the membership so I have all addon a etc. I am using buddy(?) as my membership addon.
The thanks in advance
April 14, 2016 at 5:51 pm #163455Hi,
GeoDirectory allows every user to add/claim and edit listings.
There is no way to do that out of the box. Buddypress is a social network, but it doesn’t provide extra user capabilities, for that many users are using a membership plugin such as s2member to achieve that.
I’m not an expert of s2member so I asked to Guust, who knows it better than me, to give you more details if needed.
Thanks
April 14, 2016 at 9:24 pm #163522With s2member you can create different levels of membership, each higher level having more privileges. It essentially works by restricting access to pages, and user functions etc, based on the membership level.
So for example, you want a “free” level, who can login, but not access some pages like the Add Listing page.
You want a “coordinator” level who can access everything on the frontend.
And then you need admin of course, who can do everything.April 15, 2016 at 12:38 am #163560Paolo and Guust, thanks for the answers.
Why is this the case with GeoDirectory? I would think it would be a simple thing to be able to either control entries myself or open them to members.
Is there a way to alter the code maybe?
I downloaded s2member and started to read through the details. On the quick read it looks like there is only 1 level, 0, which does not cost money. I want my site to be free for members to seek out locations I post and not to have anyone be able to list whatever they want. The only option it seems to to charge people to be members with rights to post. Is there a way in s2member to have more then 0 be free and have different privileges? I’m going to look in on the forums there when I get the chance.
Thanks again.
April 15, 2016 at 6:06 am #163605You can indeed control that from the backend if you like.
Only an owner of a listing can edit that listing.
But if you want to restrict the claim feature and or add listing feature to a particular type of user only, but not to others, then you need a membership plugin.
Do you actually want to hide your content from the general public? If not, then you don’t need anything extra, just disallow registration and only create manual users for your coordinators.April 15, 2016 at 10:02 am #163647Guust,
Thanks. I understand that only those who claim listings I create can edit them and I like and want that feature. What I would like to restrict is anyone who registers can start creating their own listings that may have nothing to do with the organization and will be “spamming” the site. Is there a way to set things so I have to approve all new listings? That would help. Now I DO want coordinators and a few others to be able to post events.
Now I may go to a paid membership for some aspects like vendors being able to post their locations and or events and s2member looks perfect for that.
Thanks for you help.

April 15, 2016 at 2:52 pm #163751Hi,
you can moderate all listings submitted if you set this option to draft:
GeoDirectory >> Design >> Listings >> New listing default status.
Thanks
April 15, 2016 at 3:53 pm #163811Paolo,
That really helps! Thank you.
April 15, 2016 at 3:55 pm #163813You are welcome 🙂
