I know what you are saying, all I am saying is that if someone creates a page…

    mysite.com/software/micosoft/

    when it should be…

    mysite.com/software/microsoft

Then SOMEONE is going to, or should, update that URL!

I agree that there will be less impact on SEO if that is only ever done by an admin.

Absolutely! That’s why I’d be almost equally opposed to not being able to edit them at all…that would just lead to deleting and recreating everything, which isn’t a good experience for anyone. 😉

Will the URL be edited automatically when the listing title gets edited by the listing owners at the frontend? It looks like this is how it works on my site so I am assuming there is no need for the listing owner to worry about wrong title spellings.

Manilaboy, currently the URL changes on title change regardless who changes the title.
The consensus seems to be, that should not happen: URL should never changed after initial setting except in special circumstances.
Therefore that should only be by admin.
Imagine a user linking to their listing from their facebook page, or somebody who set up a favorite for future reference; you would get a broken link.
It is just not best practice in my view.

    Hi Guust,

When a listing title gets edited by the listing owner (or the admin), the listing URL should also change to match the title. I don’t see anything wrong with it. I have other WP directories and that’s how they work.

Listing owners change titles multiple times. I don’t want them emailing me to change the URL to match the title everytime they change it.

If listing owners prefer a certainl URL regardless of their listing title, they can just ask the admin. I can’t think of a scenario why this will even be requested. I am running directories for many years now and not even a single listing owner requested it.

This has been adjusted so once set it can only be changed by admin from backend like normal WP posts. (will be in next release)

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

Great, thanks Stiofan. All in all, I think this was the best solution to prevent unexpected issues.

    cheers
