Have been building new site for 10 days with no problems (great product).
Today the “Preview Changes” in a published “Place” post function is returning a faulty result.
I have reverted to a previous back up of 24 hours ago and deactivated all non related plugins but I still get the faulty result.
I have not had this problem at all up until now and cannot understand why it has all of a sudden started.
I get a message about a “not yet published” listing and the content of the “Profile” section of the listing is completely blank (although content exists in the back end) and if I view the listing “live”, everything is OK.
Please see attached screen shots.
Can you please assist.
November 13, 2014 at 6:42 am #21366Can you send us a URL and admin details in a private message please.
without having a look all I can suggest is that there is some info in your listing that’s somehow wrong.November 13, 2014 at 6:54 am #21367This reply has been marked as private.November 13, 2014 at 10:04 am #21369Somehow your virtual pages have been edited or moved, look at Pages > Virtual.
You will have to restore them, see http://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/how-to-restore-virtual-gd-pages/
Let us know how you went.November 13, 2014 at 10:55 am #21374I am not a developer and have no idea about this sort of thing.
I have not touched the “Virtual Pages” (but I was aware of their existence) and do not know how they have become edited or moved.
If I give you the FTP login details, can you fix this?
I am not using a Child Theme – should I be? I have one uploaded on the site but am using the Parent Theme for development.
Please advise.
November 13, 2014 at 11:30 am #21376Yes you should be using a child theme, you will loose most settings when changing theme so it’s best to start with a child theme, i have restored your virtual pages now, please check.
Thanks,
Stiofan
November 13, 2014 at 3:12 pm #21404Yes, I can see all the virtual pages there but the problem has not been fixed.
Do you recommend I switch to the child theme and start all over again?
But then why is the parent theme not functioning correctly even with the virtual pages restored?
Please advise.
This is frustrating to say the least.November 13, 2014 at 3:34 pm #21406I have activated the child theme.
November 13, 2014 at 3:41 pm #21409This reply has been marked as private.November 13, 2014 at 6:57 pm #21449I see the new listings.
If you go to “Places” to view all the listings, click on “edit” for any of them (you can try it with either of the 2 test listings you have added) and then click on “Preview Changes” in the “Publish” section, you will get the result that I am talking about.
There is a message about the listing not being “published yet” when in fact it has been published, and the “Profile” section of the listing is completely blank when there is in fact content in the back end (although perhaps not for your test listings). If you check the map section of the listing, it is OK i.e. the map shows.
What it means is that I cannot currently preview changes I make to an already published listing.
I did not have this problem until yesterday. It appeared for no apparent reason that I can ascertain and I have even reverted to a previous back up of the site and the problem persists.
November 13, 2014 at 11:42 pm #21467Preview Changes is a WP function to preview changes that have not been published yet. It is not very useful for GD because normal users normally do not have access to the admin area.
You should use the Edit This Post link from the frontend, then you can preview.November 14, 2014 at 2:09 am #21471Thanks. OK, I understand.
One last thing though – when I do “Preview” anything (be it a WP post, page or GD place), I do not get the WP admin bar at the top of the browser that shows the”Edit This Post” link.
I used to get it in my previous themes, but since I have installed the GD theme I do not get it – just a full screen with no black admin bar.
Is this a GD theme setting I need to amend?
I have attached a screen shot of the “Preview” screen I receive with no admin bar showing.
Please advise.
November 14, 2014 at 3:10 am #21473The GDF theme does not have that option.
November 14, 2014 at 3:56 am #21475OK. Thanks for your assistance.
November 14, 2014 at 12:49 pm #21506Sorry i did add a option to the GDF theme under headder settings to hide the admin bar, we find it best to hide this from users as most of the links are to the backend and usually we hide that from users as everything can be done from the front end.
