I’ve been getting to grips with how the ‘Contact Details’ section of the add listing form works. As far as I can see, if you drag the cursor around the map, then the address fields which are above the map are updated live.
The way it’s presented now, this could cause user frustration. Here is how that could happen:
- The user carefully types the first line of their address, and then selects the correct options in Country, Region and City.
- At least on my site, the map does not update automatically when the user types in details in the address field. The user scrolls down the page and sees the map which is not set to the address s/he just typed.
- The user now scrolls around the map. Each time the user moves the pointer, the text fields above the map (which they have already typed) gets replaced by wherever the pointer is moved to on the map. The user now feels frustrated because s/he wasted his/her time typing in the fields above.
In my opinion it would make much more sense for the map to be shown above the address fields in the form (i.e. in first position in the ‘Contact Details’ section of the add listing form. This way they drag the pointer around until they are happy with their position on the map. They scroll down the page and see the address fields. If they are already correct from the map, great. If they are not correct, they can manually edit them. Because they have already fixed the pointer on the map, they hopefully won’t need to move it again, and so the details they typed are not lost.
To cut a long story short, how do I re-order fields on the add listing form? I want to move the map to first position in the add listing form.
(Note: It could be that the maps are not working on my site. If the maps are supposed to auto-update as the user types in an address, then I will need to reconsider.)
