Regions question

I am a new Geodirectory user creating a small, simple directory of county Chamber of Commerce members. We are a rural county and have no incorporated cities. Most residents and travelers identify themselves with one of five regions in the county.

The queries that people will most often want to use is something for like, “Show me all the restaurants in North County” or “Show me all the campgrounds in the Down River region”

I have tried using neighborhoods but they are linked to “cities”, which is to narrow, and I’ve tried regions, but of course those don’t relate to the ones in our county.

Is there a way to create custom regions or define a region as X miles from a city? I saw the forum suggestion to maybe use tags.
