We’re currently using the GD Popular Post Category widget to display categories. However, this displays all categories (up to the limit set), not related categories as seen as on your example page, http://wpgeo.directory/restaurants/. We’d like Popular Categories to function the same way. Can you please tell us how you accomplished this?

Hello, Im not sure I’m following you. In that page, you can see all the Restaurants listings (and not the related), the related listings are inside the detail page, and it can be enabled going to Geodirectory/Deisgn and the in the Detail tab.

If you mean the widget at the bottom of the page you linked, that’s the Best Of widget.

Popular Categories in Listings Pages will show categories of that Custom Post Type.

It already works like that and there is nothing to be done to achieve it…

Let us know, maybe provide a URL where we can see what’s wrong on your website.

    Thanks

Any word on this? My client is expecting to see the same functionality that is included in your demo and am hoping to resolve this within the next day or two.

    Thanks!

    Hi

In our demo restaurants is a Custom post type and it works like that only for Custom Post types. Not for Category / Subcategory.

    Thanks

It seems to me that this is something that should be offered as part of the GD core because it makes sense. I can’t imagine setting up CPTs for every place category we have in our system. Do you know of any third-party plugins that offer this functionality?

Do you have any shortcodes available that can:

    1. Display popular categories based on category ID so that we can pull related categories only?
    2. Display related categories on the map based on category ID?

I still do not understand why the MAP on http://arizonakey.wpengine.com/directory/restaurants/ shows anything other than restaurants.

It makes no sense for us to see other categories on the map while we’re in a specific category. Are we using the wrong widgets?

The map shows what’s on the list below. All those places are in the restaurants category, but some of them are in other categories too and the default category isn’t restaurant.

The pin and url use the default category.

    example: http://arizonakey.wpengine.com/directory/chandler/attractions/rawhide-western-town/

    Thanks

    Paolo,

I see what you mean about the map. We purchased the plugin you suggested and it’s working. Thanks for your help.
