Remove tags from submission form

Is there a way to remove the tags field so that tags are not applied in the directory? Please let me know.

Tags can be hidden with css:

I’ve added that, however, place tags are still being populated. Is there any way to turn off the functionality? I really don’t want the added taxonomy complexity with place tags.

Delete any existing tags, and new listings cannot have tags. Tag functionality is part of WordPress, so it cannot be deleted.
