The site I’m developing, whilst not an intranet, is a single-business, restricted access site.

Given that GD creates pages on the fly, is there no way to prevent direct access when someone uses the url?

For example, I need to disable non-logged in access to sitename.com/places and all other GD pages. Is this possible?

I think that would be possible with the S2member plugin.
That allows you to protect any pages based on a URL basis, so you could protect any page that starts with /places or /location etc.

I’d looked at s2member, but I just need page access control and don’t need all the extra bloat that comes with it.

I’m using WP Access Areas, which does its job well but, of course, it can’t control access to pages that don’t actually exist. The best I can do is to set restrictions for every item in GD separately, which will restrict access to the detail page, but that still doesn’t control access to the main listing page.

Although GD is great at what it does, dynamically creating not just page content, but the actual page itself, has it’s drawbacks.

I’ve read a number of posts about shortcode implementation, is that going to be a reality any time soon?

I am only familiar with s2member, and I just use it to restrict pages. There is no need to use any of the other settings. I can’t give you any advice on other similar plugins.

Not too sure about the progress of the shortcode implementation, we could ask Paolo maybe.

Thanks Guust, I’ve gone with s2member for now, but the sheer size of the plugin does worry me, even though I might only be using the page restriction options.

It does work though, so thanks.
