    Hi,

For some years now, I have been involved as a volunteer for the ASGC (Association of Scout & Guide Centres) which is a peer support group for centres in the UK that offer Camp Sites and Activity Centres. Their current web site & directory is at http://www.asgc.org.uk

I’m currently (after discovering Geodirectory) building a new site for them and have a test site partially built at http://www.asgc.uk

So, currently, I have a few centres on there and I have only one category where I have changed “places” to “centres” and I’m toying with how to set the directory up for the best effect.
Most centres offer camping and many of them different activities such as archery, climbing, sailing and so on.

How should I best set this up? It would be great to have people search for “sailing” near to a particular town but I don’t want to end up with multiple listings, merely one for each site but with multiple categories for the activities and facilities they offer.

I’m also trying to find a way to have in the menu a regional list so that a visitor can select “Scotland” and it will list all the sites with “Scotland” as their “region” as defined as a custom field in centre settings.

Any help would be very much appreciated, I’ve got a rough idea of what to do but I’m sure others may have some tips that could save me hours of work.

    Thanks

    Pete

What about adding a custom field called “activities” with options being archery, climbing, sailing and so on.
Then add that custom field as a filter option using the Advanced Search addon.
That way visitors can search for all listings but can tick options to only return listing where there is archery for example.

If you have used a custom field with “countries” like Scotland, Wales etc, you can link to the search results page where all listings have scotland as a custom field.
For example a link to all North West listings:
    http://www.asgc.uk/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=&sgeodir_Region%5B%5D=North%20West&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=

Let us know how you went.

    Awesome,
Thanks for that, you’ve just saved me hours of work guessing…..
All 3 solutions set up and working fine.
    Really appreciate that.

I’ve no doubt I will be back with more questions as I continue.
