Hi, I am using the Kleo theme on my site. By default they offer a search in the navigation but I would like to replace that search with GD search. The current search form is triggered with an ajax form which is entirely what I’m after…but I don’t know how to do it.

I’ve tried adding the GD search in my header but it just doesn’t look right, especially on mobile.

How would I get the GD Search form to replace the default Kleo form? I just want the main search input to be visible. I am okay with hiding the custom place types, location, and advanced search options. It’s mainly for functionality and uniformity throughout my site. Reasons being:

    1) Currently, I can limit the Kleo search results to GD listings, but the results page is not consistent with GD search results page. The results are shown as “blog posts”. Which is crappy.

    2) Having a search option in the navigation is a huge convenience to visitors so they don’t have to continually navigate to another page or scroll down(on mobile) to reach the sideboxes(where I could use the GD search form shortcode).

I really have two “missing pieces” to my project here. I know that you are all busy, but if anyone would be willing to tackle it, I would be very appreciative. I know I could hire freelance, but they don’t know your product like you do and I know that your support here is solid! Also, the Kleo support has gone way downhill, I know I won’t get any direction from there one way or another.

    Thank you!

One more thing, being able to have a search feature like the current yelp search bar on mobile would be a great feature for future updates. ☺️

If you select the Kleo header option with the banner, then you can add the GD Search shortcode there, and hide whatever you want to hide with CSS?

    Thanks

Hi @guust, thank you for your response.

I have tried that but that basically gives the same result as putting the search in my header or below the wrap. Aesthetically, it just doesn’t look good. Which is why I a hoping for some direction in replacing the existing Kleo form with the GD Search form. Plus if I edit CSS it edits the GD Search everywhere that I have it on my site.

More specifically, I would like to keep the nav bar as is. However, upon triggering the search form from the search icon, the search script that would run would actually go through the GD system instead of WordPress – the way the GD Search works. I don’t know if I’m explaining that clearly.

That becomes a customization then which you can post in the Jobs section at https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/forum/geodirectory-jobs/

    Thanks
