Back in the geotheme days there was a way to have a drop down of cities. When a city was selected the entire site would then only show listings in that city. This had it’s draw backs but it was still cool and a good selling point. It made it easy to say “i want to see everything in a particular area”.
It gets especially weird like when I search in a city and the categories narrow down to only show those in that city. So, if there’s 100 museums on the site and 4 in a city, when I go to pick the category instead of showing 4 it shows 100. The “near” field seems to only stick with more searches when using the adjacent search fields but not the rest of the site. Is there a way to change this to make the city stick until cleared out? If I enter a city I want it to stick until I remove it.
Also, when I start typing a city the suggested cities that show up underneath are not showing up close to the field, they’re showing up an odd distance below the near field.
September 25, 2016 at 8:36 am #272819To add the drop down of cities, go to GD > Multilocations > Show location switcher in menu > Yes.
The “near” field searches “near” the center of whatever location you put in, if you want to search “in” you need to use the switcher or select one of the suggested cities.
See also https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-design/#howSeptember 25, 2016 at 3:42 pm #272957Thanks, I’m trying this. I looked at the url you sent though and there’s nothing about a location switcher in there which is frustrating. I did as you said and went to GD > Multilocations > Show location switcher in menu > Yes. But I don’t see where I can now add a drop down in the widgets or settings of geodirectory anywhere… 🙁
September 25, 2016 at 3:58 pm #272960Apparently it seems I must need to set “Show geodirectory navigation in selected menu locations” to “Primary Menu” but then things really fall apart. Doing this I’m forced to use geodirectory to create the menu, ok…. So, I did and finally see the where I can select cities.
This wasn’t really what I was after but could work and may be better. There use to be in geotheme a widget to select cities.
When I select a city I’m not getting results. It still is there if you can look at it.
September 25, 2016 at 5:38 pm #272969When searching a city I’m also getting:
Notice
: Trying to get property of non-object in
/home/content/p3nexnas06_data02/71/3589071/html/wp-content/themes/supreme-directory/inc/geodirectory-compatibility.php
on line
1039September 25, 2016 at 5:38 pm #272970And, it doesn’t appear to be holding the city either after selecting one and then searching around the site.
September 25, 2016 at 5:44 pm #272971Also, I only need cities to select from. This site is about one state within one country. So, there will never be a need to select a country or state.
September 25, 2016 at 5:58 pm #272972Man, I hate to keep adding to this but I didn’t even get into how the search doesn’t work intuitively at all with categories 🙁
September 25, 2016 at 10:01 pm #273000The link I sent was about how the search works.
If you want the location switcher in a widget instead of the menu, you can use the shortcode:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/location-manager-shortcodes/#tabTo hide the notice, try this: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/faqs/help-i-get-a-php-warning-on-my-pages/
If you only want listings in one state, change country and state to the default only at GD > Multilocations
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/multilocations/#gdIf you want to restrict searches to categories, you need to add that option using the advanced search, like you have done with “child friendly” and “pet friendly”.
September 25, 2016 at 11:53 pm #273007Attached is an image of what I did as suggest by the link you sent me:
“To hide the notice, try this: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/faqs/help-i-get-a-php-warning-on-my-pages/”
But I put it back the way it originally was because I still the error page. And really I didn’t understand the faq you sent me.
Could this be something to do with buddy press?
September 26, 2016 at 10:00 am #273055Hi Jeff, can you post your ftp details?
I’ll turn off debug mode. So those ugly notices will be gone.
Thanks

The oops page error when looking at a profile in the whoop theme is still there. Is this because Whoop wants me to use/setup buddypress (which I did not do)? This error does not appear in profiles when using the Supreme theme. You’re welcome to change the theme and see what you find.
September 26, 2016 at 10:20 pm #273502Regarding this:
“If you only want listings in one state, change country and state to the default only at GD > Multilocations
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/multilocations/#gd”When I select a city though I’m getting a “notice”:
Notice
: Trying to get property of non-object in
/home/content/p3nexnas06_data02/71/3589071/html/wp-content/themes/supreme-directory/inc/geodirectory-compatibility.php on line 1039I’m removing it from the navigation for now because of the error. You may log in, enable it, and see the error and if you can fix it if you like…
September 26, 2016 at 10:21 pm #273503Also when selecting a city using the “Change Location” it doesn’t hold the city when selecting a category. It keeps going back to “everywhere”.
