Search for exact term

    Hi there

    Is there a way to force the search function to only display search results for the exact term that has been entered?

    For example if I want to make a search for ‘bus’ (this directory includes listings for ‘bus hire’ and ‘bus charter’) I get every listing with ‘bus’ contained within the listing name or body text (e.g. ‘business’) making the majority of the search results not relevant.

    Hello,

    We have added a task to work on this for exact text within quotes in titles and descriptions. Currently we have that for tags and categories. This will be released with an upcoming version, probably later this month.

    Thanks Alex. Will there be (or is there) a way to force this as the default so a user doesn’t need to use quotes?

    Hi Matt,

    I think what you want might be in this setting:
    GD>General>Search>ADVANCED>Individual word search limit (set this to 3)

    Search gives “points” to listings so if it has the word in the title it gets more points etc, so we are always getting results.

    Thanks Stiofan, I see how that helps with relevance of results – nice.

    What I’m wanting though is for site visitors to be able to search for bus and they not get every listing that includes the word business (in title or body). Just listings that contain the single word bus. Is this possible?
