Search function showing 'No Results' for various locations even when there are?

    Hi, not sure where to post so please advise if wrong!

    My GD site has listings that are searchable by location based on Google maps. Usually works fine. But i have noticed over last few weeks- and had an email from an advertiser tonight- that it comes up with no results for various locations (so even if there was no results in that specific area it should still show results for nearest listings even if it is some miles away). Also, if you search the same location by Postcode it brings up results as it normally should. i.e search ‘Bristol’ and shows as no results, search ‘BS41 8JP'(a Bristol postcode) and it shows plenty of results, same as if you search other locations close by like ‘Clevedon’ or ‘Portishead’. So doesn’t seem to be related to the listings themselves but the search facility? Any idea what may be causing this and how to rectify if possible?

    You do not have any GD Listings in or near the center of Bristol.

    The postcode is for Dundry according to Google.
    Just enter BS41 8JP here: https://google-developers.appspot.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/full/geocoding-simple
    and you will see.

    When you enter Bristol, the system calculates where the center of Bristal is, then checks the radius you set, and returns results within that radius. They are not listings IN Bristol, but NEAR the center of Bristol.

    Clevedon is a long way away from Bristol center.

    Thanks for that, that gives me some idea as to the issue. However, it has previously shown results for this location (i.e those closest to Bristol in ascending distance even if 10, 20, 50 miles away as the ‘closest’ result). If it is a case of reslts being limited by a distance radius (which i did not think there was set up but may have added one or changed this setting to a default on the recent updates (?) How would I amend this so it shows results for any location by distance, irrespective of how far away as previously it has just shown an open ended number of listings in distance order form any location? Thanks

    An update- search limit was 40 miles so should include any in Bristol, Somerset (how now increased it to 100 miles so is showign results for other locations it was not previously but still none for bristol). However, when i set radius to unlimited it shows results for Bristol but nearest results are over 3,000 miles away so it is not searching for Bristol UK but Bristol seemingly in Indiana US!? If i search a location right next to Bristol UK it brings up results but not Bristol itself- any ideas why it would be searching abroad over a UK location as i’ve never had this issue before? Is there a setting to limit searches to the UK?

    hi,

    that’s how Google Maps API return results. If you search generically, the 1st result for Bristol is in the US.

    If you go to General > Search > Add location specific text to (Near) search for Google

    You can add UK in there and that problem will be fixed.
