So, my client is trying to demo the search function on the site to her new clients who are listed as places in the site. For example, one dentist (client) lives in Anchorage, AL. However, her office is Brentwood, TN and when she tries the search function by entering in Anchorage, AL it returns no results. It appears that if the person searching, enters City, State, and Zip, the results show up. Or if the person searching lives in the area they are searching and enters just the City and State, the results show up. But if the person searching lives outside the area and provides just City and State, no results are found.

Can this be fixed to that ANY search criteria will result in some search results no matter where they are searching from? There are many people that will search for dentist near them, and the nearest dentist won’t be within the 40 miles specified as the search area. But if we expand the search to several hundred miles, then in most cases it would return too many results.

The website is http://www.microthinveneers.com. Let me know what other info you need to diagnose this problem.

    Hi,

I’m not sure I understand the question at all.

My impression is that you are try to use the search field incorrectly.

The 1st field will search keywords in Title, Description, Categories and Tags.

The second field will look for Country, Region, City, Neighborhood, ZIP or Street address (connecting to GMaps API).

If someone search for a city name in the 1st field, the system will probably return no results, unless any listings have the city name in either the description, tags or categories.

To help us understand exactly what you are asking for, we would probably need few examples (with URL of the search results).

    Let us know,

    Thank you

My first field is labeled “Name, City, State, etc. The second is labeled “Zip”. Maybe those labels are deceptive.

I think that what people are doing is, when they do not know a specific dr’s name, they enter a city or a city and zip and get no results. If I enter just a zip, i get results. Maybe there is a better way to label this or a better way of instructing users.

I think you have used the wrong description at GD > Design > Search
The first field is not for “Name, City, State, etc.”
    Have a look at https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search
especially the #3 and #4 parts of the documentation, ie “Search for” and “Near” fields.

    Thanks
