currently my home page is the location page of geodirectory.
when using search a person gets city/list of listingshow can I edit city page: title tag, description and add possible add some text before showing listings?
at this point I wonder that maybe the best option would be to create empty pages for each city, and have those show listings.
will location generated pages get indexed by google?
Is geodirectory compatible with all seo plugins?
May 11, 2019 at 12:51 am #485743You can add location specific data, and use the GD Location Description widget.
Some useful links for you:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/location-manager/#location-dataIf you add location specific data for your locations, you can add them at any time. But there is no need because locations are created automatically when listings are added.
If the Meta and Titles options of GD is not enough for you, we recommend Yoast. Most other SEO plugins will work too, but SEO for GD pages is usually done using GD > Settings > General tab > Titles & Meta.
Thanks
May 11, 2019 at 1:17 am #485746A note: it is not supported to use the Location or other GD Pages as the WP Front page; your site may not work properly with location set as the front page.

Yes, if they are linked to from your site.
do they exist, or are they generated only when user uses search?
They exist, examples:

Can the location description be shown onpage before displaying places/events?can I rename generates city pages from mywebsite/illinois/chicago/ to mywebsite/city/chicago or maybe mywebsite/chicago
Is there any benefit to me creating separate pages for all cities and displaying results on them?
If chose to create separate pages for cities and have results display on them, do I need to disable location pages or modify them so they wont interfere with the pages?
example mysite/city/chicago – created by me vs mysite//illinois/chicago/ created by geodirecotory
Alex mentioned that its “it is not supported to use the Location or other GD Pages as the WP Front page;” is that still the case?
thank you

The location description can be displayed anywhere on a location page where you add the GD Location Description widget, block or shortcode.
Can I rename generates city pages from mywebsite/illinois/chicago/ to mywebsite/city/chicago or maybe mywebsite/chicago
You can only use these permalinks:
…/location-slug/country-slug/region-slug/city-slug
…/location-slug/country-slug/city-slug
…/location-slug/region-slug/city-slug
…/location-slug/city-slugIs there any benefit to me creating separate pages for all cities and displaying results on them?
All city, region and country pages are auto-created, and will normally have only listings etc that particular location, unless you change the shortcodes for those page.
If chose to create separate pages for cities and have results display on them, do I need to disable location pages or modify them so they wont interfere with the pages?
You should use the auto-created location pages or search and location switchers will not work correctly.
You can change the slug of the location page.Alex mentioned that its “it is not supported to use the Location or other GD Pages as the WP Front page;” is that still the case?
Yes, that is correct, you should use a WP page.

June 23, 2019 at 11:20 pm #494376Let’s say I want to place article with pictures on each location page, so my best bet is to use location description am I correct? Or can I go to the location page and press edit page?
If I want to have location pages indexed by Google how would I link them from home page? Is having location switcher enough? Is there a way to create tab called cities and have all location there?
Thank you for you help.
June 24, 2019 at 11:39 am #494458You need to use the Location Description. The location page is used as a template, not separate pages.
I get a developer comment on your last question. Thanks
June 25, 2019 at 12:16 am #494598Thank you Guust, looking forward to developer response.
July 1, 2019 at 11:25 am #495639Guust, any update from the developer?
July 1, 2019 at 4:57 pm #495719Usually the search engines will look to your sitemap for a list of URLs on the site. That is why SEO plugins are the goto for creating sitemaps and verifying your URL with the search companies.
Besides the sitemap, no, there isn’t another widget that will create links to all the location pages.
July 1, 2019 at 5:03 pm #495724What Alex said. The sitemap in XML format is what you use to provide to Google and other search engines the URLs that you want them to index.
Thanks
