Thanks. I’m currently working on moving my hosting to cloudways.
September 22, 2015 at 3:28 pm #54107You are welcome! 🙂
September 30, 2015 at 4:56 pm #55222Hi Paolo,
So I’m still on trial with cloudways but my server went down twice already. The first time it went down I had to lose the modification i did for a day (which is a lot) coz they needed to reset from the last back up. The second one I was not on my desk and received an email that my server is down. There’s no way to get hold of them coz there’s no phone no. and email. I had to wait til I get back so I could chat with them. And once you talk to them they send you links to solve the problem yourself.
I don’t know why you recommend them instead of godaddy. Godaddy fix the issue with one call while cloudways fix the issue by sending you links. I can’t really compare the serve since I havent tried 1gb with godaday yet. But for customer service godaddy is way ahead. We cannot avoid problems but how much are they willing to help when it comes?
Also, they are asking me to turn the varnish on coz they said it will load faster once it’s on. Please give your advice on this. Thanks!
September 30, 2015 at 5:11 pm #55225Hi,
I recommend them instead of Godaddy, because I have no problem with them, while I had a lot of problems with Godaddy.
Our demo is running on MultiSite, with 6 websites installed and plenty of visitors. On avarage there are also 8 to 10 new sandbox open daily and the server never went down once.
The only time we had a problem was because the sandbox where not automatically deleted and I had tables from over 200 old sandboxes in my database. The backup was having problem completing. Once we fixed that and cleared the database we never had any other problems.
Turning on Varnish will break sessions, told them your applciation can’t work with it and they’ll stop asking you to turn it on. They never asked me to do so.
GoDaddy for me provide decent service over poor products. For $15 a month they’ll never give you what cloudways gives you.
But if you feel like Cloudways isn’t for you and moving to GoDaddy is what you need to do, nobody forces you to stay with Cloudways.
Thanks
September 30, 2015 at 5:39 pm #55233I just want my website to work accordingly. Like how GD and Whoop was marketed…
“Create huge location-based business directories with this fully-featured directory plugin. In a few clicks you could be the next Yelp or Tripadvisor.”
“How do you begin to build a website like Yelp? Don’t waste time searching you just found the answer. Whoop! is your total solution. Our standalone Yelp clone directory theme for WordPress will get you there with zero hassle — and your users will love it.”
But server requirements was not mention on those pages. I found out all about these requirements just recently when my server crashed and when ive already spent so much time and money for this project.
September 30, 2015 at 6:03 pm #55238Cloudways is also asking me to configure W3TC: https://support.cloudways.com/entries/105478726-Wordpress-W3-Total-Cache-configuration-for-optimal-performance
I asked guust if i need that plugin but he said no so i deleted them. pls see our conversation here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/i-cant-see-geodirectory-buddypress-integration/page/2/#post-54751
September 30, 2015 at 7:27 pm #55251Hi,
IMPORTANT
If used with GD + BBpress + BuddyPress and possibly several add-ons, this is no tool for a shared hosting or the average VPS. Having a Directory, Forum and Social Network requires resources so make sure to use at least a High End VPS or a beefier Dedicated Server.
This is duly noted in Whoop documentation in the Prerequisites section: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/whoop-theme-overview/
Cloudways is giving you suggestions based on their WordPress knowledge. They have no knowledge of GeoDirectory, so please disregard their suggestions.
W3tc is not compatible with GeoDirectory. Only GD Booster is.
Thank you
September 30, 2015 at 7:54 pm #55256What is High End VPS or a beefier Dedicated Server? What if I just do GD and buddypress how much VPS do I need for that?
September 30, 2015 at 7:55 pm #55258Is this part of my GD membership http://jeffrose.themetailors.com/tt/portfolio/gd-business-hours/ ?
September 30, 2015 at 8:15 pm #55261Hi,
an high end VPS would have at least 4GB of Ram and possibly SSD drives. Dedicated server normally have 8GB of Ram and above.
Our dedicated server where we host this forum has 24gb of RAM.
GD Business hours is not included in membership. We didn’t develop it.
Thanks
September 30, 2015 at 8:17 pm #55262What if I just do GD and buddypress, how much VPS do I need for that?
September 30, 2015 at 8:21 pm #55263I would say that your Cloudways account should be enough. If it isn’t you can upgrade to the 2GB account.
Thanks
September 30, 2015 at 8:27 pm #55266Okay. I just read this part…
Heads Up!
If you are planning to use BuddyPress, please install it first before installing whoop theme, since whoop creates some BuddyPress custom fields while theme activation. If you don’t do that, you may have to deactivate and activate the theme again and when you do that, your widget settings might get lost.
I installed whoops first before buddypress. I will lose all my setting if deactivate and activate it.
September 30, 2015 at 8:33 pm #55269No, you should not lose any settings.
Thanks
September 30, 2015 at 8:37 pm #55271So you want me to deactivate and activate the whoop theme? We also did some css settings. We wont lose that?
