hi Sir,
We were having some issues with page load speed. Following the advice of the support here, we have moved from a shared hosting account to cloudways (DigitalOcean 1GB 1 core setup) last week.
The site is up and running but We have not noticed meaningful improvement in speed. In fact, some pages appear slower. Before we get into all the details, I just want to double check a few settings here:
1. GD Booster vs. Wp Super Cache + Autoptimize
Which one are we supposed to use? We have been using GD Booster. I looked at some posts, it seems to suggest WP Super Cache + Autoptimize is a better option. Can you please confirm?2. Varnish on Cloudways
I have disabled varinish on cloudways per instruction on the doc. Can you please confirm this is correct?3. Cloudflare
We are using cloudflare. I read the support understanding GD is not compatible with rocket loader. It is already off. Are there any other settings I need to change on cloudflare? Overall, should I use cloudflare at all? Please confirm.thanks for your help.

Please provide FTP details and i’ll take a closer look.
1. It can depend on the server, one one of my servers one worked better and on another the other worked better, its a case of testing.
2. Correct.
3. Rocket loader is not compatible, please put developer mode on for when we are doign further tests. Personally we did use CF in the past but we no longer use it anywhere.
Thanks,
Stiofan

I have made some changes, to your site, please check now, (it will be faster when logged out).
I changed one query in the events manager and i removed random sorting from anywhere i could find. You should avoid using random sort for many reasons, but mostly speed on shared servers.
Thanks,
Stiofan
August 16, 2017 at 2:12 pm #391458hi Stiofan,
thanks for looking into it. Just a few quick follow-ups:
1) Caching configuration — I believe you have turned off GD Booster and have enabled Wp Super Cache + Autoptimize. I assume this is the best configuration already? Varnish on cloudways remain disabled. I assume this is what you want us to do. Please confirm.
2) Cloudflare — we have enabled cloudflare since we migrated from siteground to cloudways. We have largely used default configuration (rocket loader off). Please confirm if this is ok.
3) Apdex score on New Relic / CPU / Memory
Since we migrated to cloudways, we have been using New Relic to monitor the application. We like the tool a lot as it gives us lots of transparency although we are still learning how to best use the data and analytics. We have noticed lots of Apdex score alert (<0.6) in the last 24 hours, presumably it may be driven by testing done by your team. We have also been monitoring CPU and memory usage which are currently well within the limits of our server capacity (our traffic is very low). Can we assume if the Apdex score is poor (and if CPU and memory are well within limits), it is likely driven by the application (WP/GD)? We will keep using the tool for monitoring unless you tell us otherwise.4) will the changes you made in events manager be included in the next release? I just want to make sure when we upgrade the plugin, we won’t lose the changes you made.
5) It appears you have removed some fonts (Google fonts, I think). Do you think it impacts the speed materially? I am okay with it as site load speed is far more important than fonts! Just want to confirm if it is done deliberately.
6) Are there other changes you made I missed above? I just want to make sure we would not accidentally undo changes you made.
7) Size of database — how does the size of the database impacts the speed of the page load? Currently, we have ~3000-4000 records in the events CPT. Many of them are linked to a place record. If we increase the size of event database five fold, would that impact the speed of page load speed? Presumably, we may need to increase server capacity to match the bigger database? What is the largest GD database you have seen so far? (I assume we are miles away from it but just want to make sure we are not breaching its capability limits.)
thanks again for your support. best regards,
Peter
August 16, 2017 at 3:03 pm #391472Hi Peter,
1. Yes, id did some testing and that seemed to work best on ur setup.
2. Should be fine.
3. Try and disable any plugins you can, i tested ur site with all plugins bar GD ones disable and the load times were 1/4 (before caching).
4. Yes.
5. This is an option in autoptimize. We find it is best to remove them for speed.
6. I don’t think so.
7. Databases are funny things, your problem is not DB related but more the amount of PHP code that has to be run (plugins), faster servers help with both PHP and DB. GD can handle millions of records but you would need a dedicated server for that. Thanks,
Stiofan

August 24, 2017 at 3:29 pm #392719Hello!!!
I experimented similar issues with the GD Booster:poor performance in google speed test and poor user experience because the site is slow…
1. I use W3 Total Cache+Autoptimize in other projects (with redis mainly) with excellent results…but is compatible with geoDirectory? or the unique alternative is WP Super cache?
2. Some tips (of configuration) for speed up the site and improve the user experience. Thanks!!
August 24, 2017 at 3:42 pm #392722Hi Jorge,
We only give support for GD Booster and WP SUper Cache.
Please open your own topic if you have problems, this topic is marked as resolved.
Thanks,
Stiofan
