slugs of categories

    Hi, I just have a query.
    The slugs of my categories in places add a dash and number at their end like this my-place-1

    If I remove the -1 or -2 that seem to appear they return. It doesnt happen if I dont include a space between the name of category.

    I just wonder if this is usual behavior. In my experience this on normal pages represents a duplicate. In posts one usually permanently deletes the posts and then its is freed up but in categories there is no way to do this. Do i need to go into the database and if so where do i delete perhaps a previous version?

    Hi,

    that happens when in the database there is element with the same slug. You can not have 2 identical slugs with wordpress.

    You should find and edit the slugs present in your database before being able to remove the -1 on your listings categories.

    Thanks, thats what I thought but missed tht I had a tag with the same slug. Deleted the tag and works fine. thanks
