Split: Remove the word "Category" from the urls of the categories

Hi
I have just updated and the word ‘category’ is now featured in the URL. So for example it now shows as domain.com/whats-on/category/active-sports/ whereas before it was domain.com/whats-on/active-sports/
Are you now saying that this has to remain? Ideally I would not want the word category in the URL, can it be removed?

Thanks but there doesn’t seem to be an option to remove ‘category’ from the url, it says it must not be blank

That’s right, category base is required. It is possible to change it but not remove it.

Thanks, I understand that the category base is required but does it now have to show in the URL whereas in V1 I didn’t have this showing?

Does it now automatically redirect the old url’s or will I need to set up redirections?

There is a setting to turn on those redirects:
GD – Settings – General – Developer – Enable 404 rescue
