I did this (which is a ton of widgets, menus and work), and it appeared to work, but the minute anything changes, every single widget is off again and I have that same inactive widget sidebar alert below.

Now, I have a complete mess with widgets that do not work.

What I do not understand is how I can have various other plug-ins works flawlessly and then this completely mess up everything to do with widgets.

Stiofan, with all due respect and appreciation for the work and help you have offered so far, I believed in your plug-in, bought additional plug-ins to it and was about to subscribe and now I am in the middle of a huge mess. I took the time to put in well over a hundred locations, set it up the best I could, and now with a deadline less than 4 days away, wondering how the heck I can put this back together? I bought into this because of its Enfold plug-in and extensibility. Those two made it appear that this would work well with Enfold. Instead, I appear to have a plug-in that I really need, but it won’t work properly at all. How are others running Enfold getting this working?

    What do I do?

Sorry for the frustrated post earlier, but I am really, really worried. I have put so much into the building/re-building of this site and have a deadline we should have been able to meet on this project.

I am at four days before the deadline and need to know what I should do. I really want this to work. I like what you have built and the future extensibility is key to my decision to use it. I am not knocking the work John has done to give us a them integration kit, but ask if there is any way to have him help figure this out.

I have have always believed that there is always a solution. So, how do we go about finding it? Would John have any ideas? Is there a way to name all of the sidebars, or force some sort of structure to them?

    Hi Jason,

Am i missing something here? Is all you have to do not just rearrange your widgets after you activate GD?

Actually, I did what you said by removing everything, activating and re-dragging all the widgets back (each bar included several widgets. Everything looked like it worked, but then I made a change to one and everything went back out of alignment again. It appears that no changes can take place in the widgets or sidebars or it gets messed up again.

but then I made a change to one and everything went back out of alignment again.

Did you add a new widget area or simply moved a widget from one area to another?

Cause in the 1st case, simply make sure you have all widgets area in place before doing the re-arrangements and that should be the end of the story.

    Let us know,

    Thx

We tried both methods. Seems to slide everything up or down in the order.

What I need is to be able to add, remove or change widgets. In this case, the bulk of the widgets are holding menus and breadcrumbs. If you look at the front end of the site, you can see some in action.

If I deactivate the plug-in, it changes the order. If I re-activate it, sometimes it links them back up in order, sometimes it moves one of the widget areas to the disabled and then every widget ends up in the wrong area. If you look at each of the widget areas in the admin, you can see they are all off, again. I keep fixing these, but through the course of trying to figure it out, they keep shifting.

What bothers me is that I just don’t know if I can hand this off to a client and be assured the widgets will stay intact and in the proper areas. The only time I have ever had a problem with this is with GeoDirectory. I understand that it might be bigger than this, but how are others getting this to work properly?

My question to you: Would you hand this off to a client that is eagerly awaiting it and feel comfortable? Would you feel confident that in the due course of daily activities, it will stay running correctly?

    Hi,

what other plugins are you using that add widget areas?

As Stiofan explained, the problem is on the Enfold side, not GeoDirectory. If they used widget names and not numbers the problem would be solved. They are blaming this on wordpress, but it is not true.

    http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/toppanel-plugin-messed-up-widgets-widget-areas-in-enfold/

As you can see from that post, the problem isn’t only our plugin, but any plugin adding widget areas.

Given that you ask, before handing the work to a client, I would either add the custom widget areas without using the Enfold system, because it will never work properly or ultimately change theme.

    Thx

    Understood.

What happens if the naming is turned off on GD? Would it be possible for those areas to then slide in with the rest that are numbered?

I am trying to find a way to keep both together, so I am looking for ways to work around this problem. If you had to do it, how would you accomplish it?

Told you, I would add the custom widget areas writing the appropriate functions instead of using the Enfold system… (which appear to be useful only if no other widget area is added by plugins.)

Basically I would recreate what the Enfold system does with custom functions. Using names for widget areas this time, the problem would be gone for ever.

There is no possible way to make them work together, unless Enfold developers fix that part of the theme.

    Thx
