Hello, i’ve been a long time user of GeoDirectory. i’ve tried it on various ideas without much success. I feel like I am at a point where I can really focusing on doing a directory right now.
I am a professional videographer, photographer, and I do 360 tours as well. I enjoy the idea of creating quality content for a directory. I have a lot of domain names that could be viable for a nice directory. However, in this day and time there’s already a lot of competition between these ideas and companies/sites like google and large niche directories like trip advisor, airbnb, etc…
I think it may be valuable to focus on my city. I have a domain, VisitShelby.com. I also have a good one for my state, ThingsToDoInNC.com. I think it would be fun and cool to do one for Shelby because I live here and it would be easy to capture all the different businesses, things to do, and events in Shelby.
I don’t know though if I should just build ThingsToDoInNC.com and start populating it with Shelby and just promote the domain VisitShelby.com and have that URL point to a landing page that is a URL on ThingsToDoInNC.com for the city Shelby. Then I could go to the next close big city, that being Gastonia, and do their downtown. I could get a URL for that location to promote and point to that location in ThingsToDoInNC.com as well.
A few years ago I thought about doing ThingsToDoInNC.com but started putting VisitShelby.com together first. I setup a facebook page for it and it got a lot of likes fast! I feel like people want that to be a thing more than any other idea I have toyed around with. I’ve got other domains too like CabinInGA.com, RestaurantNC.com, NCForKids.com, BandBNC.com, and many other potentials. Some could point to a category on ThingsToDoInNC.com. Others are just completely different states.
I even thought about making a quick, simple site for each of these domain names and trying to just get a few paying listings on each. But, I’m afraid that’s not as practical or smart to do. I think it may be better to focus on just one site and see how far I can take that.
I have spent the most energy on VeganLinked.com. But, I wanted to build a new site using GD V2 to get used to using that. So, I thought the best thing would be to focus on VisitShelby.com as a site to build on V2 to get used to using the new interface before I use it for VeganLinked since it’s already got a lot of listings. Plus I’m frustrated with VeganLinked because I feel like it is just listings and that it needs to be more useful in some way, like more social or something. So, I’m sort of putting that on hold until I can find a way to do that. I was hoping UWP would evolve faster into something that would work for VeganLinked but it’s not. So, I’m wondering if BuddyPress or something could do the trick but that’s a whole different thing to learn.
I think the easiest thing right now would be VisitShelby since there seems to be a sensitive market for it and it’s the most convenient. What do you think? And, do you think I should build VisitShelby on ThingsToDoInNC.com (i.e. build a site on the city or the state)?
I just don’t really know what Geodirectory would shine more as, a city directory or state directory. If I do it as a state directory could I have it so that there is one state with multiple counties cities inside each county so that someone could search the whole state easy, a whole county easy, or a whole city easy?
Or would it Geodirectory do better setup as a separate directory for each city?

The answer is both. GeoDirectory is equally good for a city or state directory.
What you decide to do should be the thing were YOU think you can shine most.
Thanks

So, if I do a state directory of things to do does “Region” work well as “County” in that all the cities in that “region/county” will be appropriately assigned? So, if someone searches a Region/County they’ll see everything in every city of that county? I’m assuming yes, just making sure…
December 29, 2018 at 12:25 am #460419That is correct
January 10, 2019 at 3:25 am #462444How is it possible to make “region” the county?
January 10, 2019 at 4:24 pm #462529via translation file…
January 11, 2019 at 12:02 pm #462707Will that make it behave like a county in the front end? Like, if someone uses the advance search and selects a county will it just show the cities in that county?
January 11, 2019 at 3:26 pm #462734Yes, but only for listings add manually by yourself. Google does not return counties in addresses, so it would not work for listings added by users from the front end.
Thanks
