Hi,
I have just added 55 tags manually 🙁
Incidentally, I can add tags in the backend but not in the frontend at the moment?
Why is this please?
I read #66401 which offers a potential alternative solution to the inelegant way tags are added at the moment.
I am using Yoast for SEO.
Surely there is a problem using many checkboxes as the result doesn’t offer any SEO solution whereas Tags do?
Thanks
Alistair
October 10, 2016 at 6:56 pm #280719I don’t really understand Tags at all.
I have added 65 or so tags in the backend so that I can import 700 listings with tags already assigned to each listing.
In the backend I can select any of the tags i have created by typing the first 3 letters or choosing from the popular tags.
In the front end I can’t select the tags I have created and I can type anything i like and it is added to the tags.
I have 700 truck dealers that I am planning to list that all offer a selection of tags from the 65 I have created and I want to control this level of categorization so that it is uniform and SEO compliant via Yoast.
Am I missing something here?
Thx
Al
October 10, 2016 at 7:15 pm #280724Hi,
the tags field is a free field in both front end and back end, with the only difference that in the back end, there is an autocompleter.
But if anyone writes any new word and submit, that will be added as a tag both on front end and back end.
Tags are to be used to add extra search keywords to listings by its author, not as a way to select predefined tags.
Thank you,

Thanks for this.
How can I easily create predefined tags?
Thanks

October 10, 2016 at 8:18 pm #280764Hi Paulo,
Thanks for this.
How can I easily create predefined tags?
Checkbox fields?
I guess as I have added the tags in the backend Yoast will SEO them anyway?
Thanks
Al
October 10, 2016 at 8:23 pm #280779Hi,
as I said you cannot create predefined tags, you can only create custom fields through checkbox fields.
Adding a custom fields with the same name as the tag will not add the tags too to the listing.
Thanks
October 11, 2016 at 11:00 am #281136I have read all of the GD documentation and I cannot find anything explaining clearly tags and their use.
Apart from CPT’s and categories it would seem to me that tags are potentially extremely useful as they are: flexible and SEO capable with Yoast and backend definable.
It makes no sense to me whatsoever that there is ‘free entry’ for a user in a listing and no autocompleter or connection to the backend tags – 70 in my case – I spent hours setting up.
If a user can work out what tags are – doubtful – I don’t want them adding random tags.
Instead, I want them to choose from my predefined list in the backend.
Surely this is a basic requirement?
The alternative of adding 70 checkboxes is very time consuming and difficult.
Isn’t there a WP Widget to help?
Thx
Al
October 11, 2016 at 2:19 pm #281337Hi Paolo,
If it can’t be done why does this forum discussion suggest it can?
October 11, 2016 at 2:52 pm #281358Hi Allistair,
everything is feasible, but as I said in that topic it require a customization and not a simple one.
Thanks
October 11, 2016 at 5:01 pm #281492H Paolo,
Please can you describe how I can disable tags in both frontend and backend?
I don’t want the users to see tags.
I already have some CSS code in GD >> Design >> Scripts >> Custom Style >> CSS Code, to handle company logos – please see image attached.
How can I add more CSS to remove tags please?
Thanks 🙂
Al
October 11, 2016 at 8:15 pm #281743hi,
if you are using the Payment manager, you can set a limit to 0 for tags and they will be hidden from the front end.
Hiding them in the back end is a bit more complex and you shouldn’t really need to do it.
Only the admin can see the back end and you can ignore them.
Thanks
