    Guys,

Avada custuser. When I upgrade and change to my new child theme all my widgets are gone… I must have 40 of them… so much work to get these back.

I would have thought they would be marked as INACTIVE so I could still use them. I revert back to the GD Avada Child Theme in the hope that they are still related to that theme and in the hope that I could copy them from there… but not there.

Is there any way you can think of that I can get these back as I have now a mountain of work to do to get these back

You could have just changed the header in that theme…

Usually widget settings are saved per theme but i think because avada adds dynamic widget areas that this has probably messed it up.

Unless u have a DB backup, then i think u will have to do it manually.

    Stiofan,

Thanks. I think you should mention this in your documentation somewhere. I’ve lost everything widget wise….

This is something wordpress does everytime you switch active theme.

    It’s not a GeoDirectory exception.

    Thanks

    Paolo,

I completely understand that… totally know it’s not your faulty…just that if there had have been a warning on the documentation people would know to back up their widgets or even take screen shots of the widget set up screens before the 1.36. upgrade

As Stiofan said, if you reactivate the old theme, just changing your header.php as instructed, your widgets will go back where they were.

Wordpress saves Widgets postion and setting as options per theme.

We didn’t think we had to specify how wordpress works as that’s something we assume anyone using wordpress should already know…

    Next time we wont assume…

    Thanks

Reactivate the old theme does not bring them back.

Anyway, I am working through re-creating them now.

Regarding your assumption….I would be surprised if all your paying customers know that widget settings are stored at master theme level instead of site level, but of course I could be wrong :o)
