What other membership plugins works with GeoDirectory? Any of the others like buddypress, Ultimate Member, etc will they also work? Any thing that won’t work with GD that you know of?
January 15, 2020 at 5:49 am #525650We plan to add a solution for that later and don’t have any particular recommendation.
January 15, 2020 at 12:44 pm #525737Alex, I thought that “UsersWP” was the Solution that GD added? Are you saying that GD is working on integrating other Membership Plugins?
I really don’t need a membership plugin in particular. What I need is a way to add more options and features for users.
I find the Users Profile area very confusing and not very functional. If I signed up on my site as a user I would be really disappointed. What you see is banners telling you that there is nothing there. Why? Because a new account has no lists, no favorites, no listings etc. So a new user is taken to a page that tells them nothing.. not even a Hello or Welcome.
There doesn’t seem to be a way to put a Welcome Message inside the user profile, is there? Maybe I missed it.
January 15, 2020 at 1:18 pm #525744Hi there,
Thanks for your reply. There is an option in userwp plugin that allows you to redirect users to a page when they login https://userswp.io/docs/core-plugin/userswp-main-settings/#login . Could you check and see if it’s what you’re looking for?
January 15, 2020 at 1:32 pm #525750The profile page itself in UsersWP is a page, so, you can add widgets or content there to talk to your users.
With the improvements to UsersWP the limitation is really only your imagination and the time available because you can show almost anything you want on the profile.
I have seen some sites with a custom tab like “Latest news” using a 3rd party shortcode that shows posts from the blog with a specific tag.
We don’t recommend another profile manager besides UsersWP. It may be possible to integrate another profile manager like the ones you listed if they can display shortcodes for the logged in user within the profile. BP itself doesn’t come with a built in backend option for custom tabs or content, but, GD integration is handled with the BP GD integration addon, and, with BP, it is certainly possible to add custom tabs with code or additional BP 3rd party addons.
When you said ‘membership’ in your post I was thinking of a different function entirely, specifically paid member roles, which is something we have been working on and is now being retooled to work with the improvements in both GD, WPI, and UsersWP
January 15, 2020 at 1:40 pm #525757Kor,
Thanks. I have seen that option. I can create a welcome page and have it redirect from Registration and then have a link for their profile on that page and I will do that.
The My Account Profile page is one of the main pages on the site for either a user or business owner and every time you visit my site you will either see the link for “Login/Register’ or “My Account” in the top right corner. This link just begs someone to either Register or check out their Profile.
But then it really falls short. There seems to be no way that as a Website owner that I can communicate with my users or business owners. There seems to be no way to encourage the users to save their favorites or save lists and share them, or for me to recommend a new business or suggest that they share my page or enter my current giveaways. Lots of missed opportunities.
Although these are features of GD this Profile area really falls short in many ways and a Welcome Message is just the start. I am just looking for a solution that would help me make my GD directory more awesome than it is.
Maybe there is another solution. Just looking for ideas. I might be able to install an Ads Manager and share ads or text in the Profile area.
Is it possible to have a Widget only display in the Profile area? Can I add a notification to the Profile area?
Thanks for your help.
January 15, 2020 at 1:41 pm #525758I was writing when you were also replying.. I will check your reply now. Thanks
Thanks Alex. Your explanation helps. I really wasn’t looking for a membership plugin per say.. just more options as I explained in my last post above. Good to know that is in the works.
I will explore adding widgets and editing the profile page. Good suggestion… I still don’t quite understand how everything works and I find the documentation lacking so I appreciate your help.
Videos would certainly be helpful for some of these settings and setup.
Thanks!
January 15, 2020 at 6:50 pm #525814I just wanted to share that I found a solution that will work for now. I added the Shortcoder Plugin and created a shortcode where I used the HTML Editor with text and links. Then in the UsersWP Form Builder > Profile Tabs I added the Shortcode tab and added the shortcode that I made in the Shortcoder plugin to it and it is working perfectly.
Later I can create a video and add it here as well.
Just sharing in case this helps anyone else.
