    Hi,

I am trying to migrate a site to a new server, and have encountered a character set mismatch.

It looks like everything in the database except the WPGEODIRECTORY tables is set to the WordPress default character set, UTF8 (utf8_general_ci). WPGEODIRECTORY tables are set to utf8mb4.

What are the implications, if any, of converting the WPGEODIRECTORY tables to UTF8?

    Hi,

Looks like I was wrong … utf8mb4 IS the new WordPress default character set, as of WordPress version 4.2.

Still, my question remains: what happens – if anything – if I were to convert the WPGEODIRECTORY tables to UTF8?

    Hi Mike,

unless 4.2 added something else that I’m unaware of, it should be totally fine to change database collation to UTF8.

    Let us know,

    Thanks
