January 16, 2018 at 7:08 pm #413013Fantastic thanks for the update Stiofan. Perhaps I missed it but may be worth mentioning expected final release or is that a function of the beta phase?
Will you implement any of the feature requests by users? I read though all of them recently and some were really good.
Keen to hear more over coming weeks!
FYI one typo in second paragraph
January 17, 2018 at 12:02 pm #413112Hi David,
We are happy to implement any feature that will benefit all users. We have have improved just about everything in GDv2 but if you have questions about a specific feature please ask.
Thanks,
Stiofan
January 17, 2018 at 1:40 pm #413132Hi Stiofan. Is the DB structure used by GD still developed in such a way that I cannot link a GD CPT to a non-GD CPT? I understand that the method you use is faster but I just wanted to confirm before I start building a new CPT for my site.
Thanks!
January 17, 2018 at 2:29 pm #413144That is on my list of things to review but i have not got to that yet, i’ll be reviewing the linking system probably after the first beta release. (i hope to be able to open it up but i wont be able to confirm until i have reviewed things fully)
Thanks,
Stiofan
January 17, 2018 at 4:16 pm #413156Thanks Stiofan! The benefits would be pretty significant if it is possible.
January 17, 2018 at 9:08 pm #413193Thanks! I consider the following (in order) most important (most have been raised in the request list I think):
1) booking function for visitors – the value of a GD site depends on what is offered, only reviews is little value. To boost value a booking system would be great that allows users to purchase a service e.g. buy tickets
2) Affiliate/voucher system – if booking isnt possible on site, there should at least be the possibility to offer vouchers via an affiliate system that links and tracks to an external site of the affiliate partner
3) Goole import – google has valueable data (incl ratings) for locations. There should be a function to import the data to a place. Even if there are no reviews for a place it would be great to at least see the google ratings and reviews.
However, the by far and above all most important aspect I consider customisation, which I understand will be addressed.
Hope this helps!
EDIT:
Actually one question: do you already know how the transition from current GD version to V2 will work for customers?January 17, 2018 at 11:04 pm #413223I think #3 would go against Google’s Terms of Service. If the Social Importer was modified to include Google Places in addition to Yelp and Facebook that would work but that only works for one listing at a time and only from the front end I believe.
January 18, 2018 at 9:53 am #413256To link GD CPTs to non-GD CPTs or/and vice versa can be done with Toolset Types. I did this linking geolocated places with a “product” CPT. It would be great to have this native within GD V2, but I’m good at the moment.

Is this what you are talking about? https://wordpress.org/plugins/types/
Here is an example of what I am looking to do. I want to use WP Jobs Manager instead of setting up my own Jobs CPT (they are actually not jobs but for this example it works) and link the Jobs CPT to a GD Listing. Will this allow me to do that?
It seems a shame to have to build a custom CPT when one is already available (albeit as another plugin) but my understanding was that because of the way GD CPTs are set up in the database they are not linkable to other non-GD CPTs.
January 18, 2018 at 1:31 pm #413286Simplest way is to create a GD-CPT called “Jobs”, then you are all ready to go. Unless there is some reason not to of course …
January 18, 2018 at 2:09 pm #413289Hi @guust
The main reason I would prefer not to do that is because WP Jobs Manager (for example) has some great features that I am not sure how to replicate like RSS notices and the like. It’s all already built so instead of re-inventing the wheel I would be able to use that plugin for jobs with all its built in functionality and then be able to link that to a GD listing as a new tab.
I am just trying to figure my way around all of this but as someone who is not really a developer, using something already built and linking it to GD has a particular attraction.
Hope that makes sense.
January 19, 2018 at 1:34 am #413379Yes, that’s it. It is a toolset to create CPTs (Custom Post Types). In theory you can also handle existing CPTs like GD or others and link them to each other. But this is overkill.
I created a CPT “products” and it is much easier to create templates and views for the CPT “products” with the Toolset (was too lazy to code all this by my own). Is working like my specification. But you should have a look on what Guust suggested. GD CPT is powerful, also linking things (with some needed adaptions). You can switch off the geo location as I guess you don’t need them for your CPT jobs.

DirkJanuary 19, 2018 at 1:49 am #413381I suggest to open an own topic about this if you like to further discuss

DirkP.S. Why cannot edit my last post?
