How can i have two searches on page, one to display gd_places, and one for gd_events?
I’m trying to have a search in header for directory (places) and another on main page for adverts (events).

I have hidden the select drop-down and want to have both pre-set…
How/ where do I need to add code?

That’s not possible. You need to unhide the dropdown.
Without customization WP will always think there is only one search on the page.
