If you use the search box on my site, and type an author’s name, the site won’t return any matches.

For example, type “Kit Johnson” in the ‘keywords box’, and you won’t find my own listing in the results, even though my name is clearly listed on my listing page as “Kit Johnson”.

Is there any easy way to include the listing author in the search results?

    Hi,

search looks into title, description, tags and categories. WordPress works the same way.

There is no easy way to include the author as a search criteria, I’m sorry.

    Thanks

Hi Paolo (or other GD support),

I have a similar question. I’d like to have a “backend description” custom field that doesn’t appear on business listings but that DOES work for search results. In this field, we would put a list of words like alternative spellings, associated keywords, etc. so that if someone misspells what they are looking for or uses a different word for it, they can still find the same result.

Paolo, do you have any idea if a plugin like this would be compatible with GD and if I could use it to accomplish my goal? Commenting here instead of a new post cause if it’s compatible, this plugin says it can also search author fields as the other member wanted.

    Thanks!

    Hi Frank,

There is no way to do this by default, it would require customisation which goes beyone support.

If it were me i would add a admin only custom field and then add some hooks to modify the search to include to search for that.

Thanks for the tip, Stiofan. We’ll explore that option for sure!

Hi Frank, if you do work something out, it would be really helpful if you posted the solution back here so I (and others) can use it too!
