    Hello Geodirectory Peeps,

I’ve had this problem for several months now. I’ve tweaked sitemap settings, permalinks settings, indexing settings and it’s still happening. I’m hoping you can give me some guidance on how to go about troubleshooting and fixing this issue.

The issue is that we have a HUGE amount of Not Found 404 errors showing up in our search console for links related to pages created by the Geodirectory plugins but that don’t actually exist.
Here are several examples from the last week or so:

    1. http://www.whattodo-vi.com/beaches/tags/ampleparking/page/contact

We get several of these with “/page/contact” added to the legitimate url.
We’ve had 47 of these particular not found errors in just August 2016 alone, but they’ve been occurring at least since we started tracking errors in the Yoast Search Console last February.

    2. http://www.whattodo-vi.com/events/united-states/st-thomas/charlotte-amalie/contact

We also get several not found errors with just “/contact” added to the end of the legitimate url.
In August, we’ve had 12 of these.

    3. http://www.whattodo-vi.com/events/st-thomas/page/2/

    There isn’t even a page for http://www.whattodo-vi.com/events/st-thomas … let alone a page 2.
This types of errors are also numerous.

    4. http://www.whattodo-vi.com/events/st-thomas/

Speaking of… We have Events listed and published for St. Thomas. I am 100% confounded as to why there is no events/st-thomas page while there is one for business listings (www.whattodo-vi.com/locations/st-thomas. What have I done wrong?

    5. http://www.whattodo-vi.com/businesses/st-john/coral-bay/bars/shipwreck-landing/

Here is the url where this actually is: http://www.whattodo-vi.com/places/shipwreck-landing/

What have I done wrong? My client has just purchased year three of the premium plugin set – I’ve worked on this website for literally hundreds of hours since 2014. It’s discouraging to still not entirely understand how everything is supposed to work together.

    Please help.

I am going to include Admin credentials in a private message to save time in case you want to go look yourself.

    Thank you,
    Ashley

    Hello,

Thank you for finding those broken links. I appreciate it.

However, those have nothing to do with the 404 errors I specified in my original post at all.

In addition to the specific errors identified above, I have attached a screenshot of the Yoast Search Console screen which shows the errors I am talking about. With administrative access, you can also go in and see them for yourself.

The last thing I want to do is waste your time with an issue outside of your scope. I do all I can to avoid this support forum. But these errors do seem related to GD, so I’d really appreciate someone taking a closer look.

    Thank you,
    Ashley

    Hello Ashley,

Apologies for the late reply. I missed your reply yesterday.

The last thing I want to do is waste your time with an issue outside of your scope. I do all I can to avoid this support forum. But these errors do seem related to GD, so I’d really appreciate someone taking a closer look.

Ashley, if its something related to GD, you are always welcome to bother us. Don’t hesitate.
If you browse our other support threads, you can clearly see we usually solve customer problems. It is our responsibility to give you proper support since you are our customer.

We are happy to fix your issues if it is related to GD. In fact we love customers who report the bugs. By fixing your problems we are also helping other customers by applying the fix in our main plugins. So don’t hesitate.

And don’t worry I’m here to help you. But first things first. Lets fix your non GD 404 links first.

In your screenshot, the links that ends with

    /contact

    are not related to GD.

Please fix that by editing the footer widget. Just replace the link

    ../contact

    with

    /contact

That will fix the non GD link issues.

Once you done that, please re run broken link scanner and then let me know if you found any broken links. So I can check and fix GD issues.

No worries on the delay. I know you operate in a different time zone than me.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this issue more closely.

I have followed your advice and have changed all the relative links in the sidebar and the one in the footer. I ran the broken links plugin and there are currently no broken links.

Perhaps you could look into one specific error. How about this one?

Here is the url showing up in the Yoast Search Console as Not Found:
    http://www.whattodo-vi.com/businesses/st-john/coral-bay/bars/shipwreck-landing/

Here is the url where this actually is:
    http://www.whattodo-vi.com/places/shipwreck-landing/

There are several similar examples, but perhaps if we can figure out why this one is occurring, it will help me to understand the others.

    Thank you. 🙂

did you change the GD URL structure recently? Do you have sitemap.xml created with Yoast?

    Let us know,

    Thanks

Hi Ashley, I don’t have much knowledge about google search console.

But you might have deleted listings and locations from your site and that might have caused your problem.

Can you visit Google webmaster tools and ask google re crawl your websites?

This way we can make sure they are legit broken links. I see 1218 items in your search console. Many of them ends with

    /contact

You have fixed those contact links. yet they are appearing. That just mean your search console results are not updo date. Please recrawl and let me know if you find any issues.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

I am going to recrawl and monitor over the next month. With the /contact/ relative link fixed – if there’s anything else going on, it will be easier to see then.

    Thanks for your help. 🙂

Go ahead and marked as resolved for now.

    Ashley
