Under GeoDirectory > Design > Detail there are a lot of check boxes to enable/disable “Sections” from appearing on the sidebar. There are also options for including/excluding tabs in the main content area (or showing tabs as a list).

But there doesn’t seem to be any way of ordering these “Sections” so it’s possible to do something like this:

Also, that map element on the bottom of the “Predefined” Order is the first widget I placed in the GD Detail Sidebar widget area. It’s what I really want to be up top on the sidebar (as shown with “New Order” column above). But all the widgets for this page appear after the predefined sidebar template.

So it seems like all of the Details sidebar Sections should be made into widgets that can be added/ordered in the GD Detail Sidebar. Not only would it allow for much better (and easier to understand) design of a site, it would also fit within the standard WordPress approach to sidebars that most people are familiar with. And it would simplify some of the GD settings pages too! (Took lots of time to figure out why all the stuff in the sidebar was showing up, even though it wasn’t in the widget for that area/page!)

Since widgets for this stuff isn’t an option – for now?? 8) – could you point me in the right direction regarding which files I would need to edit to reorder the Sections for the Details page sidebar? Not only for moving the map to the top, but for reordering within that custom sidebar?

A second question I have is about the Listing Info Section specifically. I know information in this block can be enabled and ordered through Place Settings > Custom Fields. Show settings allows me to select which areas of the site to show information in (Details page sidebar, More info tab, Map bubble…). But ordering is the problem here. While I can set an order by dragging/dropping, that order impacts all locations where a field appears.

So when I set a great order for listings on my listing pages:

The Listing Info block on the details page sidebar isn’t so nice:

This would be a much better order for the Listing Info block:

So it seems like the showing and ordering of custom fields should probably be a totally separate settings area of GeoDirectory – a place where you can turn on/off fields and set the order, for each particular site location. Ah, well…. Maybe in a future release?

For now, are there specific templates I can edit to reorder custom fields for each of the differnt locations where they might be shown on the site?

Thanks again for all of your help!

Also, it would be good if the ability to reorder in Place Settings > Custom Fields, only impacts the order of information in that main sidebar block (an
I’d also like to reorder the tabs (or if showing as a list, the order in that list) in the main content section.

Missing from all of these great options is any way to reordering the content. For example, I would like all of these elements, which probably means editing hooks in some files. Which files and which hooks?

    Hi,

all that can be done via hooks.

By searching in the forum you can find plenty of examples, please see:

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/search/?bbp_search=geodir_detail_page_sidebar_content

In this example instead a member shared how to invert the widget area and the place details sidebar (so that the widgets will be on top of it) https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/how-do-you-hook-a-contact-form-above-the-detail-sidebar/#post-280995

Let us know how it goes,
    Thanks
