How to hide Header Section in Home/Location page?

Hi, i want to do something like http://www.yelp.com to which the home page does not have header and have a search bar in the middle of the page.

I would like to seek help to see how I can:
1) hide the header section in home page only?
2) how do I add a search bar in the middle of the page with an image behind like yelp? many thanks!
