Events pulling through after they have finished

Hello,
I have a what’s on page with events listed. Once the event is over it removes them from the page. However I also have a widget on the homepage that is pulling through upcoming events at random but it is still pulling through past events. By the looks of it the widget is pulling the events throught from the back end events page as opposed to the What’s on page in the frontend

Is there a way to stop this. We dont want to have to remove the events manually after they have finished. I hope that makes sense.
