Hi
I noticed that the meta description on my site is set to 35 words for the detail pages. I checked all the options but I do not know how to change that.I am sure that it is somewhere but can’t find it! Also would it be possible to change it to characters rather than words???
Regards
May 8, 2015 at 1:02 pm #39038Hi, are you using any SEO plugin (such as WordPress SEO by Yoast?)
May 8, 2015 at 5:36 pm #39066Hi Simone
I have “All in one SEO” but I am not using it for places or events and even if I disable it I still see 35 words as my “meta description” .
Interesting enough if I enable the plugin for places or events and check my pages on any metadescription website I get error messages saying that I have TWO meta descriptions on that page.
Thanks
May 8, 2015 at 5:39 pm #39068We built GD to be compatible with SEO plugin by Yoast. We can’t guarantee it will work fine with all SEO plugins.
Just FYI
May 8, 2015 at 5:46 pm #39069ok. let me install that one cause the “All in one SEO” does not seem to be working fine
May 8, 2015 at 6:00 pm #39071I have just installed Yoast and exactly the same:
http://yogaforlondoners.com/studios/london/hatha/the-honor-oak-wellness-rooms-south-east-london/
The link above still has 203 characters on the meta description which means 35 words. Where does the 35 words come from???
And as you can see from the screenshot I have just added 159 characters on the meta description by using Yoast but still it shows 203???
Any advice?

May 8, 2015 at 6:35 pm #39076Hi,
in your page source your meta description is:
Which is exactly what you entered using the SEO plugin.
Not whatever is telling you that unreliable service, which is probably showing you a cached page.
I wonder why you don’t check for yourself (right click, view source or with firebug), before even posting here…
Thank you
May 8, 2015 at 6:50 pm #39078The question still stands, dude. If I do not put anything on the Yoast meta description field I still get 35 words as default meta description. Can I change that anywhere??? Check any other page on my site. Always 35 words. Where does that value come from?
May 8, 2015 at 7:06 pm #39079That is defined in the geodir_add_meta_keywords function.
http://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/codex/geodirectory_functions/geodir_add_meta_keywords/
Line 830
There isn’t an option to change that other than overwriting them with a SEO plugin.
Thanks
May 8, 2015 at 7:39 pm #39084Thanks for that. I changed it to 28 and I get better results when it comes to listings with average word lengths. Personal choice, I guess! I will still have to manually enter the meta description for listing with very lengthy words but hopefully it will help me with the SEO . Not sure but I will try! Thanks for being constructive 😉
Honestly ,thanks again for the quick support!
May 8, 2015 at 7:47 pm #39089Just FYI, after every update you will have to modify it again…
Thanks
May 9, 2015 at 8:51 am #39127Yes, not a problem. I have a list of things that I always have to change after upgrades.
