This morning, I cannot add new entries into our directory. The address field reads “Oops! Something went wrong.” and there is a row of exclamation marks obscuring the field. I do not know if this is an issue with your data provider, but we did change our site domain last night. Could that have somehow disabled the geolocation functionality?

    Hi Ron,

Could you please try generating a new Google Map API key and see if it works? If not, please share WP temp admin access to your site so we can take a better look? You can post the details here using the private reply option below.

    Thanks!

I don’t have a field for the Google Maps API key at GeoDirectory > Design > Map

I gather from the documentation that’s where it should be. Is there another place to check?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ron,

we exclusively provide support for the latest version of GeoDirectry and for anyone using add-ons they must be active members to access support.

Please renew your membership and update everything. If after updating something isn’t working still we’ll be more than happy to assist you.

    Thanks

The problem with this approach is that you’re hanging people like me out to dry, who promoted your product to management and now have no recourse when it suddenly and inexplicably fails.

I’m sure the problem is the API key. Perhaps I can find a workaround for not being able to edit it in your interface.

    Hi Ron,

changing domain is a major change, what you are experiencing is not a inexplicable fail.

The problem is 100% the API key. When you create an API key, it requires the domain to be white listed.

Changing domain requires to change the domain in the API key settings too. If you don’t want to update our plugins, you’ll have to change it within the DB, most likely in the wp_options table.

The reason why there are no fields I think is due to version conflicts, but I can’t confirm. Versions installed are too old (there are 47 outdated plugins out of 86 ).

About hanging you out to dry, I’m sorry but when you decide to let the membership expire, you locked yourself out from support and updates. That is part of the agreement and that was a choice you made.

If the version of GeoDirectory that you have installed is old that it didn’t require yet a goole maps api key, you may be able to solve with this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/api-key-for-google-maps/

    Thanks

Actually, no one in my company made any such decision. The membership was purchased and the plugins installed by the vendor who developed our site, without the direct knowledge of anyone here. Since, I have championed continuing to use Geodirectory over several other solutions, and that stance is becoming less tenable by the day.

We have a cautious update policy because we do not have in-house WordPress expertise.

I’ll push for a membership renewal… though I don’t know exactly how I’d go about doing that. Trying to log in with the account username I see in the admin interface results in an “account not found” message.

Updating the plugin worked, and did not break any of our customizations. Thanks for your off-the-record guidance. 😉
