After creative criticism from Google I have decided to remove the homepage map from USDFins.com and use the Short Code on usfdins.com/fire-department-directory instead.
Here is my question. How do I set the default “City” using the short code pleaes?
Kind regards,
October 26, 2017 at 7:29 pm #402798Hello!
None of the core shortcodes support a default city:

Thanks!
October 27, 2017 at 2:45 am #402841Ok.. well. I am testing the Short Code for homepage map on a page other than the home page. It is not working at https://usfdins.com/fire-deparment-directory/
Is it true that the homepage map short code will only work on the home page? Because it is not finding any listing on the /fire-department-directory/ page.
Is there another mapping solution if gd map will not work on any page other than the home page?

Is it a listing page? There is a [gd_listing_map] shortcode too.

Just as a review, ome strategy is to create another wp page and use the widgets and shortcodes to add the GD features you want.
Other WP templates and theme options would apply on that new WP page, outside of the GD theme.
That page is then added to your menu as the home page of your directory.
However, that page would not be set as the GD Home Page in GD Permalinks.
Most people who use other non GD themes consider this strategy and go their own way with custom styling.
Also, you currently seem to have Map autozoom set to off on your current GD Home Page
October 27, 2017 at 5:14 pm #402943I am only interested in using “just” the GD Theme on the site USDFins.com.
No other theme.A Google Forum member suggested that for the site USFDins.com it is confusing to the users to see a map with icons to “locate” Fire Departments when the site’s purpose is to sell “insurance” to Fire Departments.
Thus, I considered their comment and wanted to move the GD Home page map to another page. The page I selected is the usfdins.com/fire-department-directory. I inserted the short codes and the map does display on the usfdins.com/fire-department-directory page. So, for a moment let us focus on the directory page as just mentioned.
None of the listings appear on the page as mentioned.
So oI ask… “using the short codes” will the homepage map function on any page other than the home page?
Kind regards,
October 27, 2017 at 6:04 pm #402945Yes the home page map can be used anywhere on your website.
Please provide admin credentials and we’ll check why it is not working on that website.
Thanks

I am not sure what your problems are but you seems to be the only one having them, i also have no idea why reinstalling stuff would fix a problem, maybe its some sort of caching going bad and the reinstall is clearing it?
Your map will not auto zoom unless you have it set to do so, but you dont seem to want that, so it will never auto zoom.
The auto redirect to location is an option in advanced search but again the map won’t autozoom unless you have it set to do so.
