    Hi

Would Supreme Directory update remove header.php file? We had made changes to Supreme Directory as its a child theme, but looks like its been updated, and some changes we made like a custom header.php have gone.

    Hi Laurence Cope,

Thanks for reaching us. Yes, we’ve updated SD theme and if you’ve customization applied directly to the child theme, it will be overwritten. That is why we always suggest that you use the code snippet plugin for custom functions and custom CSS inserted directly into GD plugin.

Regarding the footer copyright issue, kindly update the code from this article. https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/faqs/how-do-i-change-the-footer-text-in-supreme/

    Thanks!

    Thank you.

But how would one edit the header code to put something custom in using code snippet plugin? I would like to add a search bar, there is no hook or anything in the place I want it. So I need to modify header.php.

Or can code snippet plugin override the theme header.php file with my own header.php file so then its OK for it to be updated?

Also, child themes should not be updated, they are there so one can make edits to override the parent. Your theme should not be updated or it should be a parent theme. Or you supply a second child theme based on this, which is not updated, if you want to continue to update the first. And make it clear it will be updated, as many people will expect a child theme not to be.

    Hello,

If you don’t want Supreme to be updated, then don’t install the update.

If you want to make sure it won’t be updated, you can ‘fork’ it and rename the child theme.

We have auto updates so thats not an option.

but creating a fork is a good idea then, thanks.

I did not see any notice saying not to make changes to it, or it will be updated though, maybe that should be added or made more prominent to avoid the changes we already made from being overwritten. I can imagine others having this issue considering its a child theme.

    Hello,

thanks for the feedback about it.

It is the way WordPress works, that anything installed with the plugin manager will be overwritten upon update.
