I started noticing that sometimes the YouTube “Share” URL does not always work in the video embed.
See images. In one image you see the result when the listing didn’t show the video using the provided Share URL from YouTube. I was able to get it to work by using the actual URL.
The other image shows a listing where the provided Share URL did work. Ideally this would work consistently. The only difference was in one listing I added the share URL when creating the listing for the first time, prior to saving/publishing it for the first time. When I noticed it didn’t work I tried again by editing the listings and copying and pasting the shared URL again. This still didn’t work so I used the actual URL.
The second listing where it worked I published the listing first, then went back to edit the listing and added the shared URL. This worked.
The third image shows the “Preview” when adding a listing and how it has an image placeholder. This is frustrating because it doesn’t show you that the video actually didn’t work. Then after checkout there’s no way to go straight to the listing because the developers didn’t include a link to the listing in the Invoice Page after checkout. So, then the visitor has to go find their listing to view it and then they finally realize it didn’t work. Ideally the preview would actually show the video and/or at least show that it did or didn’t work so they could go back and fix it right away. Or at least include by default a way to go straight to the listing from the invoice page after checkout.
It really needs to be all about making it as easy as possibly, objectively, for the visitors. I hope this helps GD streamline their product.
