Loss of Responsiveness after customisation

    Hi People,

    I have employed somebody to customise my site, which they are currently doing, I’m using the GDF Framework with the GDF Modern theme so no compatibility issues but in customising the search for me they have lost the great responsiveness of GD completely and are trying to fix it. Essentially the idea of the homepage is the be similar to GeoTravel Genesis Demo with an image behind the search but on different devices such as Ipad (image attached of homepage on Ipad), Iphone, Android, Windows Phone etc, the search bar just goes all over the place and in some cases isn’t even visible.

    Is it possible I can just get a basic pointer to let them know where they have gone awry, they are a decent customisation company in India but I am currently getting a little anxious as they have obviously not followed GD best practices in customising the site to keep it responsive on all devices.

    Any quick pointers or help would be much appreciated so I can go back to them with my concerns and not sound as un-technical as I am!

    They could also look at the CSS code of the Genesis GeoTravel theme.

    And without having your URL we cannot check anything at all. They should know what code they added that stopped it from being responsive, and then adjust or delete.

    To add an image behind the search I would have thought you just add a background image to the search div, and if that is done correctly, it should not affect the responsiveness at all.

    Thank you Guust,

    I customising the search box they have obviously removed something that kept the search area controlled. As you can see from the image I asked to make my CPT into radio buttons instead of a drop-down menu so if that has caused a problem I can go back to a drop-down.

    They have also removed the ‘Near’ search box which I do not need. I want to test trying to edit the search area myself on a test-site. What is the best way to remove the ‘Near’ box and just have one long main search bar, is it simple to do?

    Hi Paolo,

    No that’s fine, I didn’t want you to fix problem, it’s not your job. To be fair they have done quite a bit of customisation not just linked to GD and everything has gone ok, it’s only the search that has gone all over and a couple of bits on the listings page.

    I just wondered, is the responsiveness about the theme or the GD plugin or both? and what controls it with GD or with the GD framework? is it like a grid or is it adaptive?

    It could be both.

    Responsiveness is managed via Media queries in css files. They are usually at the bottom and start with

    @media screen and (max-width: 240px)

    GD has it’s on css files and GDF too.
