500 Errors

A few days ago I installed the main buddypress plugin and then the GD buddypress add-on.
Today I am getting a 500 error on the site and can’t access at all.
If I look at the logs, it references buddypress.
I renamed the buddypress folder in plugins and now the site works.
Can someone tell me what these errors mean?
