    Hi,
I am just about to import my first data set from another business directory, in the example csv there is a column heading for is_featured what are the implications of setting this 1 or 0 on the import. The old business directory didn’t have this so it is not populated. But I am wondering if it cross relates to another setting from the old directory.
    TIA
    Mike

Also the same question for post_author, the example is a 1 or 0 what does that set?

Featured is a special ‘status’ for listings, and it is sortable in listings and widgets. It is a function of the Price Package, usually an ‘upsell’.

post_author is the ID of the user account belonging to the author of the post itself, also known as the listing owner. This is important for allowing the right user to login and edit their listing.

Thanks for that, its what I thought but wanted to check:-)

Bit of advice if I may, the directory we are importing has an email list which we could use to create WordPress users and then use post_author to connect them. But the list owners have concerns that the email list may be very out of date. Would we be better adding the listing with no post_author and letting them claim there listings?

All the listings should be assigned a post author, as it is a required field. This could be some “editor” with a friendly username, but it will not show the username if the listing is not claimed.

On import, you can set the “claimed” column to ‘1’ for the listings where the author should be the listing owner.

For listings you want to leave unclaimed, leave the “claimed” column blank or add a ‘0’.

    Thanks for the info,

I don’t see a claimed column in the example import csv I download, can I just add a ‘post_claimed’ column to the csv and populate it?

Would the users email address be OK for the post author, all these listings will be loaded unclaimed from the outset, we don’t actually have a username for most of them as yet.

No, you should install the Claim Manager addon, then export to confirm the presence of the column and the column order.

Author takes an ID for a user account not an email address.

Best practice is to setup all your addons and custom fields, then export a sample of listings to get your CSV format. Then merge your data into it.

    Hi Alex,

I do have the claim manager installed, but there are no columns for claim in the export example. I don’t actually see the custom fields I created in the export either.

Ok, try adding some dummy data to your CPT and then export the listings for that CPT.
