I want to make use of special offers in geo using simple text description but adding a date range so an offer goes live on a set date and is then removed on a set date when it ends. Geo Deals over complicates the whole process, is there another plugin you can suggest that might do this.

You could try using events, with the Event addon. Events can then be linked to a listing.
