I don’t see an option to search by tags on v2 search.
    /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=gd_place&page=gd_place-settings&tab=cpt-search

    Is that a possibility?

The search for field will search title, description, categories and tags.

What is that link you have there?

Oh maybe you mean add it to the search bar, no, still cannot add tags to the search bar.

Right, no, not an option to add tags to the search bar.

This feels like quite an oversight.. such an oversight in fact that I feel I can’t have been clear.

on v2 it seems you can’t add a cpt_tag to the advanced search:
    /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=gd_place&page=gd_place-settings&tab=cpt-search

Is this true, and going to remain true?

I mean.. not being able to search by them sort of .. what’s the point of them? If you click on one it will run that same search, so.. why NOT add it to the advanced search options?

    Hi Nick,

(I though i had already replied to this, i think i might have been logged out when i submitted it as i don’t see it.)

Tags are user entered info and they are already searched during a normal search, you can also just visit a tags page if thats what u want to filter by.

I don’t see the benefit of adding a specific tags filter, but i’m happy to debate it and how it would work.

(I am assuming you mean a search filter and not a autocomplete in the search bar like categories?)

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

It seems that I can have custom fields as filters in the advanced search: https://cl.ly/27e4add41580

But there’s no option for tags.

It’s just… weird. If I KNOW I want to search all ‘vietnamese’ cuisine, or all projects tagged ‘eco’, then having a tags filter would seem to be the way to do this.

If you wanted that then there are two ways to do it:

    1. visit the tags page /places/tags/eco/
    2. Search for “eco” as the search already looks at tags.

    I don’t see why a 3rd option is needed?

Well you could also say “I don’t see why a category option is needed”, too, couldn’t you? In fact why not just use wordpress search and be done with it?

The reason it’s expected is because
    – tags are asked for on the front end, raising expectations
    – people do not know which tags to search for, but would if presented with a list (a well known taxonomy problem: one person’s ‘cat’ is another’s ‘feline’ is another’s ‘persian’ but all of them would know to select ‘cat’ from a list)
    – you can add lots of other things to the filter but NOT this.

Is adding tags to the filter extraordinarily hard for reasons I don’t comprehend?
