    Hi,

I’ve added a standard wordpress search widget on my website so that people can search for different place types by name, however regardless of what is searched for, nothing is returned. Any ideas why?

I can provide login details if necessary.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

GeoDirectory search is specifically for listings, so, you should use the GD shortcodes for search if you want to help visitors search for listings.

    Hi,

yes, we’ll need to check your website to verify that. Please provide a link and admin credentials and we will have a look.

    Let us know.

    Thanks

Okay sure that makes sense – however I’m looking to be able to search by listing name, across all post types (eg, in the case that someone knows the venue name). Is this possible?

I’ll post my login details in a private reply below.

When I search Sayang, a listing is shown.

Can you say more about the issue?

Sure that works, however is it possible to search across all post types? This is for the case that someone is searching for a venue but is not exactly sure what venue type (i.e., post type) it falls under?

GD Search will only search one post type at a time.

Other search plugins options may provide different results but we haven’t seen any that do that. We don’t have any official integrations that are supported to search all listing types.

What would the benefit of Custom Post Types then be, if you can’t search across them? I need to add +20 CTP’s each with different custom fields, because it could be venue, Hotel, Catering so the fields they each require is different.

Is there a dropdown with CTP in the search?

The benefit is the ability to have completely different fields and layouts.

Each can be searched, but only within the CPT.

Once multiple CPTs have been added and listings added to them, then yes a CPT dropdown shows in search bar.
