Hi
I’m finding setting up the directory a bit confusing at the moment.
I have created a new custom post type, but only the results from the original ‘places’ custom type seem to show at http://www.thehouseofdog.co.uk/dogfriendly (this is what I renamed /location to)
When I manually click on the new custom post type I’ve created, only the contents of that custom post type ie the listings appear beneath it. There is no map showing just the results from this custom post type. How can I add a map for instance to the top of this page please; http://www.thehouseofdog.co.uk/accommodation/
At the /dogfriendly page, which I’m trying to set up to show all custom post type results, the only things which appear on that map are the listings which are within what was originally the ‘places’ post type. (I renamed it to Out & About with dogs)
Have I done something wrong?
Thanks
Sally
June 18, 2014 at 12:46 pm #4696Hi Sally
Custom post types are like top-categories, which you then divide into categories:
Animals (Custom post type) with categories: cats, dogs, pigs
Plants (Custom post type) with categories: carrots, trees, flowersGo to WP admin > appearance > widgets:
Your /dogfriendly page is the GD Home page and you will see sections like Top, Content, Right etc
Your /accommodation/ page is the GD Listings page, and you will see the same sections
Add a “GD > Gmap – listing page” widget to the GD Listings Top sectionIn the ribbon on the bottom of the map at /dogfriendly you’ll see your custom post types; clicking on those custom post types links will show all the categories and listings of that custom post type on the map; only all listings of one custom post type can be shown at the same time.
Let us know how you went
June 18, 2014 at 1:19 pm #4700Ahh thank you Guust, now that makes so much more sense now! Plus you’ve answered loads of other questions I had in my head lol 🙂
June 18, 2014 at 1:22 pm #4701If only I could always read women’s minds that easily … 🙂
June 18, 2014 at 1:33 pm #4707Lol my husband says the same thing 😉
At least you can read my mind better than he can!
June 18, 2014 at 1:43 pm #4713P.S. How do I change that little bit on the ribbon on the map which lets you select by rating on the demo, but category on my site?
Can’t seem to get the map on /accommodation to work at all at the moment, but I’ve got it the right shape. Maybe I’m missing some other vital part before it actually works lol
June 18, 2014 at 1:56 pm #4717What do you want to change on the category list?
Appearance > widgets > Collapse child/sub categories ?Your map on /accommodation seems to work to me; it should show all accommodation listings only, nothing else.
June 19, 2014 at 11:09 am #5022I just wondered how come on mine it lists the categories on my site, but on the demo site it lists the star ratings. I thought maybe there might be a way to change it, but I guess it’s ok how it is anyway 🙂
I’m just trying to set up my custom fields for a custom post type, I want users to have the option to ‘Add pub name’ rather than use the ‘Listing title’ option, so I added a ‘pub name’ text field, but the ‘listing title’ and ‘listing description’ fields still appear there. Is there a way to either remove them or rename them? I can’t seem to see them in the custom fields list to do anything with them..
Thanks 🙂
Sally
June 19, 2014 at 11:27 am #5025Hi Sally, the demo does not list the star ratings, what you see is the names of the categories which are 1 star hotels, 2 star hotels, 3 star hotels …
You cannot change the title and description (at this time): every listing needs a title and description.
If you want to change what is “printed” on your page, you can use a translation file to change Listing Title and Listing Description to call it something else (which can be used for ALL your listings).June 19, 2014 at 11:41 am #5028Ah ok, the 1 star, 2 star thing makes sense now, thanks! Sorry I’m a little slow, takes some time for me to get my head around these things sometimes lol
Hmm a translation file is something I’ve never heard of before. But if it will change the listing title and listing description on all custom post types, that wouldn’t really work anyway. I just wanted to make it clear to people that they should add for instance the ‘pub name’ here and the ‘accommodation name’ in the accommodation custom post type title etc, but not to worry, hopefully they will know by ‘listing title’ what to put in there… I think I try to over-simplify things for people too much sometimes! 🙂
I’ll just take the ‘pub name’ one out and leave listing title.
Thanks again for all your super fast and down to earth help, a huge difference to what I’ve been used to in the past with the other company I purchased plugins from! 😀
June 19, 2014 at 12:08 pm #5031No worries, thanks for the thanks 🙂
