How can I change to the new version? I read the directions and don’t know how to ftp to the server.
I haven’t really done much with my site but am about to so I could actually just start it over but would that work? What would I have to do on the current server – delete databases etc and just start over?
Can the v2 just be uploaded using the WP uploader?
or will it ever be improved so you can just update to V2 in wordpress by clicking an update button?
Thanks
Julie
don’t know coding and don’t have a test server…just a user.March 3, 2019 at 4:59 pm #472209Hi Julieo,
Thanks for your post. Kindly follow the conversion steps here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/installation/#convert .
Thanks!
March 3, 2019 at 6:18 pm #472213I did read that and I don’t know how to do that. I don’t know how to upload via ftp. Will it ever get to the point that I can just click on update to V2 in WordPress?
or will I be able to upload it through the WordPress panel?
Or what if I just started the whole thing over? would that work or would there still be code from v1 in there or what would I need to do to start over?
thanks

Thanks for your reply. Is your directory new? If it is, you can start from fresh using GDv2 directly and if not, we’ll point you the direction for conversion.
First, you’ll have to get an FTP access from your hosting provider.

March 4, 2019 at 7:33 pm #472430what do you mean by new? I have had it going for over a year and just playing with figuring it all out. I don’t have any listings that matter.
I don’t have that info – I guess I could get it but don’t like playing around with stuff like that.
will it never get to the point of just being able to update it by using the WP dashboard and update plugins with one click?
thanks
March 4, 2019 at 7:40 pm #472435Hi Julieo,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the misunderstanding. No, there isn’t another way besides starting from fresh or going through the conversion. Or maybe you want us to guide you through the conversion? https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/installation/#convert
March 4, 2019 at 7:52 pm #472440so we won’t be able to just upgrade it eventually? That seems odd.
what do I need to do to start fresh then… delete site and databases etc or what else needs to be deleted.
thanks
March 5, 2019 at 7:42 am #472525Hi Julieo,
Thanks for your reply. You can export the current listings and reimport it into GDv2 later. To begin, you’ll have to clear everything that includes your database. You can use reset plugins like these https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-reset/ . Then you’ll have to remove the themes and plugins.
March 5, 2019 at 5:42 pm #472655so no simple way to update the plugin to the new version someday?
March 5, 2019 at 6:25 pm #472686Hi julieo,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, no. The only way and the easiest would be through the conversion. Which part are you confused with the conversion?
Thanks!
March 5, 2019 at 6:58 pm #472710I don’t know how to ftp.
I guess I will just start over.
Just seems odd that it won’t ever be able to update easily.
thanks
JulieMarch 5, 2019 at 6:59 pm #472711Will it ever get to the point that I can just click on update to V2 in WordPress?
Yes, in a couple of weeks maximum you’ll be able to do that, however you’ll still have to go through the conversion steps as outlined in the documentation.
V2 is a new software and it needs to update your database structure too.
Thanks
