After wasting months of failed effort with other directory plugins we discovered GeoDirectory and loved it! We spent several months adding categories, designed custom map icons and adding numerous places. It was all going SO well, but now disaster has struck!
We received a somewhat complicated message about updating the plugin. We did not understand the manual aspects so we selected the downgrade option to the previous version until we knew more. We suddenly got all sorts of red warning messages that it had failed and now our Business Directory page which had the shortcodes for the map and the categories and showed perfectly now only shows the shortcodes. We are at a loss as the what to do now.
Although our budget is extremely limited because we had not yet launched our directory or earned any revenue, we are more than willing to make some sort of payments to anyone who can help us to restore our directory. We will, of course, provide the login credentials for the site.
Our site is https://www.AjijicToday.com.mx
Thank you!
May 19, 2019 at 7:22 pm #487443Hi ajijictoday,
Thanks for your post. Looks like you’ve updated your GD plugins into v2 and are confused with the changes. Before we assist you with this, have you checked out our robust documentation here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/getting-started/ that explains everything regarding the new version?
May 20, 2019 at 7:27 pm #487643We played around, very nervously, and managed to get everything back. We are still struggling with getting the map to show up correctly but we think this is because Ajijic doesn’t actually exist as a real city. It’s more of a neighborhood in Chapala.
The only issue we are somewhat concerned about is the warning message we are still getting about updating. Clicking on “update” was what caused all the issues before. Hopefully we are okay with not updating for now.
Thank you for your help.
May 20, 2019 at 7:34 pm #487646Hi ajijictoday,
Thanks for your reply. You’re updating from GDv1 to GDv2 and you can refer to the instructions here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/upgrade-from-gdv1/ .
May 20, 2019 at 9:15 pm #487655If you will allow one more quick question that relates to what was said before about Ajijic not being an “official” city.
When we try to add a listing, for example, in Riberas del Pilar, which is just east of Ajijic, we cannot move the map pin to the correct location. We get an error saying that it must be in Ajijic, which is a bit strange considering that Google Maps doesn’t know where Ajijic begins and ends.
We then watched your video on your Location Manager, which we think is what we need; however, if we understand it correctly, we would set the default location as Chapala because all of the other towns and villages are officially part of Chapala, then add all the various towns and villages as “neighborhoods”, such as Ajijic, rather than as cities.
If we are correct on this would we then be able to map the correct address using the GPS coordinates in the neighborhoods instead of Ajijic as a city as it is now?
Budget is a consideration until we get the directory operational so we don’t want to invest a thousand pesos in something that isn’t going to work for us.
A sidebar question is are we able to install the Location Manager okay when we are in trouble with the update process?
Appreciate your help.
May 21, 2019 at 8:05 am #487695Hi ajijictoday,
Thanks for your reply. If you’re getting the “error saying that it must be in a specific location”, this usually means that you’re trying to add an additional city, region or country. You’ll to have the “Location Manager” addon installed for that. You can always contact us here if you’re having issues with any GD addons. I hope this helps.
May 21, 2019 at 10:38 pm #487837Well, now we have a HUGE problem. Although we didn’t touch a thing with GeoDirectory we are now getting the red warning messages everywhere on the site when editing. Every page! Every post!
We don’t want to dismiss the messages in case that sends us back with no GeoDirectory again.
As we asked earlier maybe there is someone very familiar with the update process who could help us? We have been making great progress using GeoDirectory and need to keep going adding listings. Obviously, we also need to be able to work on the site without getting these error messages everywhere.
Appreciate your help.
May 21, 2019 at 11:01 pm #487846We’ve lost our GeoDirectory again!
We’ve been planning to do a major launch once we got some listings in every category.

May 23, 2019 at 10:30 pm #488485This reply has been marked as private.May 24, 2019 at 4:34 pm #488683You will need to press the “Downgrade” button.
May 24, 2019 at 4:34 pm #488684You will need to avoid updating GeoDirectory, quite intentionally, to avoid that happening.
May 24, 2019 at 4:47 pm #488689Sorry. I am not understanding you. I did do the downgrade thing but it doesn’t seem to do anything. The first time I did that the Business Directory page was gone and we got the red error.
What exactly is required to get the most recent version of the plugin? This directory is really critical to our site because there is no similar directory in this entire area of Mexico.
May 24, 2019 at 6:58 pm #488722May 25, 2019 at 6:32 pm #488930Not sure if you did something but magically our Business Directory is back. Thank you!
This time the downgrade appears to have worked which is great! That being said we would still like to know exactly what we need to do to upgrade to the latest version. We read the documentation you sent the link for, but it doesn’t appear anything relates to our installation. We just don’t want to do anything that screws up our directory again.
We also reported the issue with not being able to set the location for businesses outside of Ajijic, but we changed the location to Chapala, which all the villages and towns are officially part of, so this solved the problem. We looked at the Location Manager but at $49 USD we would rather invest in the total bundle as soon as we can afford it.
Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated.
