Hi GD team,
We have been using GD on our site, energyarts.com, for about 9 months and are very happy with it. We have renamed Places/Locations to Instructors. And have implemented shortcodes on a custom search page /instructors-search/.
On this page, we have noticed a bug where if we enter a category (we have renamed “Certification”) into the search bar and do not enter anything into the location, the search results are inaccurate. But if we try a name and no location, the results are accurate. And if you enter a certification and a location, the results are accurate. So it’s only that one combination.
We are wondering if you can help us debug. Thank you much in advance. We are using GD v1.6.38 with WordPress 5.0.4.
June 5, 2019 at 4:13 am #490907Please share a few examples URLs with a short explanation for the inaccuracies you are seeing.
Please also share WP Admin credentials in a private reply in case we need to check the settings.
Thanks,
A
June 5, 2019 at 6:31 pm #491046Ok thank you. One example is…
Here are the 4 instructors that have the category “Senior Instructors Level 2-Certifier (Dragon & Tiger)”:
However, if we type in the search bar “Senior Instructors” and select that category from the suggested categories that appear when I start typing, and then hit “Search” without adding a location, then I get no results:
And I’m getting the message: “There are no instructors within 50 miles (80 km) of this location.”
Is it required to have a location filled out? Just strange that it would work with names and not categories.
Thanks. I’ll create a temporary user and pass over in the next reply.
June 5, 2019 at 6:40 pm #491051Another example is:
When you type in “Wu Style” and click the suggested category of “Wu Style Tai Chi Long Form – Level 1”, in the search bar, the first entry of the search results is Yoke Chin, who does not have this category applied to her profile:

The link you sent is for a near search
June 6, 2019 at 5:39 pm #491314Hi Alex,
Can you clarify? I did not put anything into the “location” search box for either link I sent over. I only selected the suggested category (certification) from the first field and hit “Search.”
Thanks.
June 8, 2019 at 1:29 pm #491694It looks like you removed the search bar.
Where do you have your search function now?June 10, 2019 at 5:50 pm #492076Hi Alex,
Here is the page with the Instructors.
https://www.energyarts.com/instructors-search/
And the search bar is right below “Find an Energy Arts Instructor”
Thanks.
June 10, 2019 at 5:51 pm #492078Trying again to upload the screenshot…
June 10, 2019 at 8:40 pm #492148Can you please share the search URL?
GDV1 is searching the text of the category, so Yoke Chin is relevant to that. If you want to filter to only within the category then add the Category to the search bar as a select.
June 10, 2019 at 9:45 pm #492162Hi Alex, I believe we have that implemented. For example, now if you start to type in “Wu Style” in the search bar, the categories with that name come up as suggestions below the search bar. Please see the screenshot attached.
June 11, 2019 at 7:19 am #492202That is the autocomplete function, which is submitting the text of the category for search.
You can see how to add the category to the search bar here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/#cat
June 17, 2019 at 10:18 pm #493497Hi Alex,
Ok we are still discussing what to do about this. In the meantime, we have come across a rather large bug. As of today, none of the links to our instructors or categories currently work. For example, here is the first instructor listed:
https://www.energyarts.com/instructors/united-states/massachusetts-1/northampton/bill-ryan/
And the next:
https://www.energyarts.com/instructors/united-kingdom-1/london-city-of/london/paul-cavel/
They just take us back to the homepage.
Let me know if I need to start a new ticket for this new issue.
Thank you in advance.
June 18, 2019 at 5:46 pm #493651Ok we have determined that was an issue with the permalinks within GD. Reset them and they are working now. Thanks.
